Arellano University (Pamantasang Arellano in Filipino and commonly abbreviated as A.U.) is a private, nonsectarian university in Manila, Philippines. It was established in 1938 by Florentino Cayco, Sr. as Arellano Law College[2] and was later known as Arellano Colleges. The university was named after the late Cayetano Arellano, the first Filipino chief justice.[3]
The university is composed of several autonomous colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. The athletic teams are the Arellano Chiefs, members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
History
Arellano University was created through the initiative of Florentino Cayco, Sr., the first Filipino Undersecretary of Public Instruction and an educator. On 1938, the first Arellano University, the Arellano University Law School was established in Intramuros. Arellano University Law School was the former flagship campus of Arellano University, and was the first law school ever opened in the Philippines. Prior to the outbreak of World War II, the site of Arellano University was moved to Sampaloc and was established as Arellano Law College[2] and closed on December 1941 to 1945 because of the Japanese invasion in the Philippines during World War II.[2] It reopened on April 1945 and was renamed as Arellano Colleges.[2] On June 1946, Cayco became the first President of Arellano University and through his efforts Arellano Colleges became Arellano University on February 22, 1947, and since offered more courses. On 1954, Arellano University opened a school of nursing and later a law school,[2] and since has expanded into six constituent universities which was named after several national heroes of the Philippines as follows; Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, Jose Abad Santos, Jose Rizal, Juan Marquez–Sumulong, and Marcelo H. del Pilar.
The World Intellectual Property Day on the Philippines was held at Arellano University, with Hon. Harry K. Thomas, Jr. delivering the welcome message.[4] Also claim by a various reliable sources from Commission on Higher Education that Arellano University is one of the highest performing nursing and law schools in the Philippines as well as in accountancy, physical therapy, education and other courses without board exam, the university produce a very competent alumni.
Campus
The campus lies on an area in Manila known as the University Belt, the unofficial name of a de facto sub-district of Manila, and is bounded by Legarda St. to the north and Tuberias on the south. The university transferred into its present location immediately after World War II. The first structures in the campus were the Rizal Hall, followed by the Florentino R. Cayco Memorial Hall, Paulino Cayco Hall and the Plaridel Hall.

Academics
The College of Education offers courses of Doctor of Education, major in Educational Management; Master of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Education, major in Early Childhood Education, Education Management & Supervision, English, Filipino, Guidance and Counseling, Home Economics, Mathematics and Psychology and Special Education. The Psychology and Special Education has two Plans, Plan A is with Master's Thesis and Plan B with Special Research Project.[5]
The College of Nursing is one of the major academics offered by Arellano University with a PACUCOA Level II. It offers the course Master of Arts in Nursing, major in Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Maternal and Child Nursing, Administration and Supervision in Nursing and Occupational Health Nursing.[6] An international partnership with Alderson-Broaddus College was launched in June 2006, which would give an opportunity to the students to earn a US diploma in Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The College of Business offers the master's degree in Business Administration, which specializes in General Management, Marketing, Operations, Organizational Management and Finance.[7]
The College of Law is one of the major academics offered by Arellano University and was established in 1938.[8][9] The school was managed by the Arellano Law Foundation, a non-profit, non-stock organization established by alumni and faculty members of the university. The law school offers two degree pograms; a four-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Laws and; a five-year program (Executive Class) leading to the degree of Bachelor of Laws.[8]
The College of Arts and Sciences is the academic unit of Arellano University that specializes in computer science, psychology and information technology. The sub-campus of Arellano University Manila, the Arellano University Institute of Arts and Sciences is the main academic building of the College of Arts and Sciences of Arellano University.
The College of Criminology is the academic unit of Arellano University for the scientific study of the nature, extent, causes, and control of criminal behavior in both the individual and in society.
The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of the academics offered by Arellano University and offers a Bachelor of Science degree program.

Arellano University, Manila is the flagship campus of Arellano University. The university is one of the major universities situated in the University Belt, the de facto sub-district of Manila and the largest of all the constituent university in terms of land area and academics.
Arellano University Law School is one of the constituent universities of Arellano University, notable for being the law school of Arellano University and offers different educational stages up to college. It was the first Arellano University established.
Arellano University Pasig is one of the institutes of Arellano University located in Pasig City.
Arellano University Pasay is one of the two universities established by Arellano University in Pasay City along with the Law School of Arellano University. The campus acts as a sub-campus to Arellano University Law School.
Arellano University Malabon is one of the branches of Arellano University, offering preschool education up to college.
Arellano University Mandaluyong is one of the constituent universities of Arellano University located in Mandaluyong City. The university offers secondary education and tertiary education.
