Brett Wickens

Brett Wickens is a graphic designerand musician from Burlington, Ontario, currently living in California, USA. He co-founded the Canadian band Spoons in 1979 and played on their debut single "After the Institution", released on Mannequin Records in 1980.

According to an entry at Discogs, this was followed with a collaboration with Roger Humphreys, "The Jovial Foresters" who "made one live performance, and produced a few unreleased songs in a prog-rock style."

More notably, these two then formed synth-pop group Ceramic Hello, releasing one album and a single. The original album and single are in very high demand, especially in Europe, with the album having recently fetched over $300 on an eBay auction. The album was re-released in 2007 as a double-album on the Vinyl-on-Demand label in Germany.

Wickens then left Canada for England where he became a partner in the legendary design firm Peter Saville Associates. During this time he worked on demos for an unreleased second album and released one solo 12" single, "Between Two Frequencies" / "The Harbour" with PiL's original bass player, Jah Wobble.

He was also associated with William Orbit and collaborated with fellow ex-pat Canadian Martha Ladly and Andy McCluskey of OMD on The Partnership. A demo of this remained unreleased at the time, but the title track was included on the German re-issue The Absence of a Canary v1.1.

Wickens is now working remotely with Humphreys on a second Ceramic Hello album.

He is a partner at Ammunition LLC in San Francisco, along with renowned industrial designer, Robert Brunner (who founded Apple's industrial design group) and brand strategist Matt Rolandson.
