Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area

Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area is a state-managed protected area located between Metamora and Hadley, Michigan, northwest of Detroit.

The park is 723 acres in area and has 214 camping sites which are composed of a "north" and "south" campground, and one cabin. The north campground has larger lots, which can accommodate larger trailers than the south campground. There is a six mile nature trail, as well as picnic areas, beach with boat rentals, and a camp store. Lake Minnewanna is in the center of the campground which is a man-made lake 80 acres in size.

History

Metamora in the beginning was laid out differently than it is today. Where the current north campground is, is where the original beach was and where the beach is now was just forest. The drive behind the campground host spot was the original dumping station. Lake Minnewanna itself was made by building the dam across the creek that flows into Lake Minnewanna.
