Mavis Beacon is named for her, selon that article. Carolynparrishfan 22:44, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Date

Her birthday was listed as Jan 1, 1940 originally, and someone changed it to July 11, 1940 without a citation. On IMDB, her birthday is listed as July 10, 1939. Mavis on IMDB Does anyone know for sure? --Faith healer 17:59, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality dispute

Some paragraphs of this article are biased in their phrasing. One of the images of the "torrential downpour" concert" didn't show Staples clearly at all. The tone was an adulatory one. Please edit this article to enforce a neutral point of view. Otherwise, it's a fine article. :) -- David Spalding (  ) 20:33, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the weather was like on that night, but I cannot see how it would have any influence on either her life or career. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redcalx (talkcontribs) 23:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adulatory? Mavis Staples has one of the most incredible voices in 20th Century music, first recorded when she was 14 years old and then continuously worked and recorded for the last 54 years, has collaborated with highly significant musicians and has also had achievements outside of music. These are quite an accomplishment and I can see why a discussion of achievement may appear positive. nic dolby nicdolby@gmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.94.144.34 (talk) 07:49, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However good she is, phrases like "evolved from enormously popular gospel singers (with recordings on United and Riverside as well as Vee-Jay) to become the most spectacular and influential spirituality-based group in America" read like a record company puff-piece. It is not objective, it is not verifiable (at least not using information contained within the article) and it is therefore not appropriate. If a reputable primary source has described her or her group in that manner, quote them. If not, it's just the author's opinion, and the author of an encyclopedia article is not entitled to put their opinion on show in it. 203.173.160.11 (talk) 06:03, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
