The entrance of the CIA Headquarters

The Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA) is a civilian intelligence agency of the Republic of Kosovo responsible for providing national security intelligence to senior Kosovo policymakers.[1] The KIA also engages in covert activities at the request of the Prime Minister of the Kosovo. The KIA's primary function is to collect information about foreign governments, corporations, and individuals, and to advise public policymakers. The agency conducts covert operations and paramilitary actions, and exerts foreign political influence through its Special Activities Division.

Chief

The establishment of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA), which Mr. Smakaj will be heading, was announced several months ago, but no Director had been named until last Wednesday. The reason for the delay has been attributed to bickering between the two political parties that form the country’s coalition government: the Democratic Party of Kosovo, of Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, and the Democratic League of Kosovo of President Fatmir Sejdiunce.
