Judai Yuki

Template:Yu-Gi-Oh! Characters

Judai Yuki (遊城十代 Yūki Jūdai), is the main character of the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX in Japan).

Character

15-year old Judai Yuki got to join Duel Academia, a boarding school that was established by Seto Kaiba from the original series. Before he actually gets to the Academy, Judai obtains a Winged Kuriboh card from Yugi Mutou. When at the school, Judai gets a low score on the the duelist entry exam and is therefore placed in the Orisis Red which is the lowest dorm, along with Sho Marufuji and Hayato Maeda, his new friends. Although Judai gets a bad score on the exam, he is a very talented duelist and has good instincts. This causes many of the other duelists at the academy to fear him. He was later asked in an episode to be promoted to the Ra Yellow Dorm, but didn't accept as he wished to be with his friends. So far, there is only two people that have a crush on him. The first is Asuka Tenjouin who many suspect has a crush on him. The second is Rei Saotome, who diguised herself as a boy to get closer to Kaiser Ryo. In the end, she developed a crush from Kaiser Ryo to Judai.

Judai has made several enemies at his school, including Professor Cronos de Medici, who Judai defeats in his examination duel. Out of spite, Professor Cronos tries to kick Judai out of school on many different occasions. Despite his carefree attitude, he is an accomplished duelist, having defeated Professor Cronos during his examination duel,

Jun Manjoume in a school-wide duel, and Daichi Misawa for the representative position. He is also responsible for the defeat of almost every Assassian that they have faced.

There are only three oppponents who have ever beaten Judai up to date. They are Ryo Marufuji , Kaibaman, and Ed Phoenix.

Card List

Since the beginning of the series, Judai has used the same dueling deck, made almost entirely of Elemental Hero monsters, as well as various spell and trap cards that support them.

As Professor Cronos has said, he runs an "Elemental Hero" deck, and most of his monsters are very weak, especially his "partner", Winged Kuriboh. Unlike other duelists like Misawa, who duels based on intense mathematical analyzation, and Manjoume who duels based on the power of his cards, Judai duels almost entirely on instinct and simple combos.

The majority of his strategy is based upon the various fusions that are created out of combinations of the Elemental Hero cards. As the series progress, it is revealed that every Elemental Hero has a fusion of some sort with another, giving the cards Polymerization, Miracle Fusion and Fusion Gate premier importance in Judai's deck. The majority of his other cards supplement his Elemental Hero monsters, such as the Field Spell Card Skyscraper and these cards have allowed Jaden to emerge victorious even in dire situations (with the foremost being when Misawa sealed Polymerization with Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell, forbidding Jaden from using the card and summoning his fusion monsters).

Another line that accurately describes Judai's dueling strategy is during Judai's second duel with Kaiser Ryo, where Professor Cronos mentioned that Judai's great strength comes from his tremendous gut feelings, as in comparison to Kaiser Ryo's cool, logical dueling style.

Asuka Tenjouin

Template:Yu-Gi-Oh! Characters

Asuka Tenjouin (天上院 明日香 Tenjōin Asuka)known as in Japan, is a fictional character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX). Her family name has been written as "Tenjoin", "Tenjouin", "Tenjyoin", and "10 Join" in Roman characters. Her first name in the Japanese Version means 'Tomorrow's Fragrance'.

15-year old Asuka is a strong female duelist from the Obelisk Blue dormitory at Duel Academia; Asuka, along with Ryo Marufuji and Jun Manjoume, is in the best dormitory of the academy. She is regarded as the "queen" of Obelisk Blue, yet she does not follow the crowd nor does she regard herself as better than other people.

This notion is furthered when Judai and Sho Marufuji duel the Meikyū Brothers, and then tells Daichi Misawa that she is happy that Judai gets to stay at the Academy. Misawa corrects her by assuming that she meant Judai and Sho, and presumably figures out that Asuka has a crush on Judai when Asuka tries to change the subject. Asuka is one of the students to have been defeated by Judai.

Asuka mourns for her long-lost older brother, Fubuki Tenjouin. It is later revealed that Fubuki is actually "Darkness", the first of the "Seven Star Assassins", who is later freed of this persona due to a defeat by Judai in a shadow duel. However, he is devoid of his memory and in order to restore it, she engages in a duel with Titan, the duelist that trapped her and challenged Judai to a false Shadow Game. However, Titan had recieved true shadow magic via an item he had acquired from the leader of the Seven Stars, and he dueled Alexis in a vicious duel in which he gained the advantage due to Dark Arena. Ultimately, Asuka was victorious and this restored Fubukis' memory.

Later in the series, Manjoume develops an infatuation with Asuka that resulted after the defeat of the final duelist of the Seven Stars by Judai. Fubuki helps Manjoume with his crush and he steals all the seven keys in order to force Asuka into a duel with him. He plays very suggestive cards such as Hidden Affection and Love Letter, although Asuka wins during the end. Manjoume's crush on Asuka continues throughout the series, although since his soul and free will have been sapped by Takuma Saiou, the current state of his affections is unknown.

Card List

Asuka plays a deck composed mainly of Cyber Girls. Her tactics are well-balanced due to the variety of different effects her monsters possess, ranging from direct attacks to negation of oppossing card abilities. She is also skilled at concentrating on a single tactic while dueling, devoting all her cards to the summoning and strengthening of her fused warrior Cyber Blader, or her Cyber Angel ritual series.

Sho Marufuji

Template:Yu-Gi-Oh! Characters

Sho Marufuji (丸藤 翔 Marufuji Shō), is a fictional character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX in Japan).

15-year old Sho is the weaker younger brother of Ryo Marufuji, who is in the Obelisk Blue dormitory. He is in the

Osiris Red dormitory along with Hayato Maeda and the main character, Judai Yuki. Sho manages something what is

almost impossible, he gets lower grades then Judai. Sho is a decent duelist but has a great deal of self doubt, hindering his performance. He is later promoted to the Ra Yellow dorm after he defeats [[Yu-Gi-Oh! GX minor characters#Kochō Ran|Kochō Ran]], an Obelisk Blue student, in a duel.

Template:Spoiler

Sho' appearances are numerous throughout the series but he only duels four times.

His first duel is against Judai in order to train him for their Tag Battle match that would take

place due to their being in the forbidden dorm to save Asuka. Judai starts with Elemental Hero Featherman in attack mode and a face-down card, from which Sho summons Patroid. Overlooking Patroid's ability, which would have enabled him to view Judai's face-down card, he assaults Judai, who stops the assault with Negate Attack. Judai then deals a strong blow to Sho with his Elemental Hero Sparkman and Sho then draws Power Bond, the card Kaiser Ryo had forbidden Sho from using due to its inherent flaw and Shos' inability to cope with it. Sho then fuses Gyroid and Steamroid with Polymerization to summon Steam Gyroid and he attacks. Judai, slightly impressed, summons Elemental Hero Thunder Giant, whose ability destroys Shos' Steam Gyroid, and depletes the remainder of Shos' Life Points. When Judai realizes that Sho had Power Bond in his hand, he wonders why Sho did not play it, since it would have made Steam Gyroid a 4400 attack point monster. Sho reveals his brother's sealing of the card and this would eventually lead to Judai's duel with Kaiser Ryo.

His duel with Judai against the Meikyū Brothers is a slipshod affair for at least the first half of the duel, as Sho manages to fall into every single trap that the brothers set for Judai and Sho. First of which, he forgets the special ability of the brothers' Kazejin and attacks with Steam Gyroid, whose attack points drop to zero due to Kazejin's ability. Later, he attempts to destroy the Fairy Meteor Crush card equipped to the brothers' Gate Guardian with Mystical Space Typhoon but it is blocked by Judgment of Anubis which negates the Mystical Space Typhoon and destroys Judai's Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster. However, Sho gains his wits back after Judai gives him some praise and he summons Drilloid, which removes the Defense Wall that was acting as a shield for the Gate Guardian. He then plays Shield Crush, which destroys the Gate Guardian. At the final stages of the duel, Sho summons UFOroid and fuses it with Judai's Elemental Hero Tempest using Power Bond to create UFOroid Fighter, which has attack points equal to the combined total of the monsters that compose it (4000 in this case). Its attack points are then doubled to 8000 thanks to Power Bond and it attacks the brothers' Dark Guardian, which, despite its ability to be immune to destruction in battle, does not prevent overflow damage, and the brothers are defeated.

In the second season, Sho is given an opportunity to advance into the Ra Yellow dorm should he defeat Kochō Ran, an Obelisk Blue student. Feeling that he should not shoulder his brother's legacy, Sho gives his Power Bond card to Manjoume before the start of the duel (he reclaims it afterwards). Sho begins with a strong move, destroying Ran's defense position monster with Shield Crush and accomplishing a direct attack with Steamroid. Ran recovers and plays Insect Princess and with numerous cards, puts her weaker Insect Sub-Type monsters on Shos' side of the field. She then uses her Insect Princess to destroy them and due to the special ability of the Insect Princess, it increases in strength. Sho, in the meanwhile, makes direct attacks using Submarineroid and sets up the field for his Fusion Summon. Eventually, Ran places an Insect monster on Syrus' field that negates any Spell Card that he plays. When attacking for the win with her Insect Princess, Sho halts its attack with a Trap Card that switches it to defense mode and forces Ran to discard a card from her hand. Sho then plays Vehicroid Construction Zone, which acts as a Polymerization card for Vehicroid monsters and furthermore cannot be negated. Sho then summons Super Vehicroid - Jumbo Drill and with its Fairy Meteor Crush-esque ability, it destroys the defense-position Insect Princess and finishes Ran off.

In episode 55, Sho develops a rivalry with Tyranno Kenzan over which of the two has the right to call Judai "big brother." They constantly argue and fight, prompting their repetitive seperation by Asuka. This rivalry continues past Shos' upgrade to Ra Yellow in the following episode, finally ending in episode 64, when the two duel to settle matters once and for all.

Early on in the duel, Kenzan inflicts heavy damage to Syrus' life points with his dinosaurs, but Sho sets up an elaborate combination of cards that lock down his opponent in an infinite loop. Kenzan's Ultimate Tyranno constantly attacks Syrus' Decoyroid, which is revived over and over again through various methods, causing Cyber Summon Blaster to wear down Kenzan. Before the last blow is dealt, Kenzan discovers that Sho went without food or sleep to search for the missing Judai. As a result, he saw Shos' devotion to their friend, and did not activate his Jurassic Impact card, which would have wiped both players out simultaneously

Card List

Sho plays a Vehicroid deck, which are cartoon-like versions of real vehicles. Similar to Judai's Elemental Hero series, Shos' Vehicroid monsters are generally lacking in terms of martial strength but he supplements them through other cards and often combines them to form stronger cards. As he gains more self-confidence as the series progresses, he generally starts to duel much better as was seen in his duels against Kochō Ran and [[Tyranno Kenzan]]. During his duel with Ran, he plays effective monster destruction cards that clear the field or cards that enable him to get direct hits (Shield Crush and Submarineroid). He ends the duel by summoning a powerful Fusion Monster: Super Vehicroid - Jumbo Drill. Sho seems to be on a new plateau with his duel against Tyranno Kenzan, as he locks Kenzan in an infinite loop, constantly dealing him damage with Cyber Summon Blaster, something the original Sho at the start of the show would never had been able to accomplish.

Hayato Maeda

Template:Yu-Gi-Oh! Characters

Hayato Maeda (前田 隼人 Maeda Hayato), is a fictional character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX in Japan). Template:Spoiler

Sixteen-year old Hayato has a face that resembles that of a koala, which resembles the Koala Deck that he utilizes. He was forced to retake his freshman year after he failed his first time around. His best friends, Judai Yuki and Sho Marufuji, come to the school during this time. During this period, Hayato gains a lot of more confidence in himself and he ultimately leaves Duel Academy after being hired by Pegasus J. Crawford to work for Industrial Illusions.

Hayato is only seen in two duels throughout the entire series: one against his father and one against Cronos de Medici. His duel against his father was due to the fact that his father, a world-renowed duelist,

believed that his son's efforts at Duel Academy were useless and he would be better off leaving. To decide the conflict, Hayato dueled his father. At first, he did not know how to utilize his monsters effectively, such as using Des Koala in attack mode, rather than the face-down defense mode where its Flip Effect can activate. He eventually makes a comeback with Giant Koala, whose 2700 attack points help Hayato to clear his father's field. However, his father plays Flipping the Table, which allows him to destroy all monsters on Hayato's side of the field as long as he sacrifices enough cards to do so. Ultimately, Hayato summons Master of Oz, who has a massive 4200 attack points, and he seems on the verge of victory, when his father plays Flipping the Table once more and with some Equip Spell Cards, deals 1000 damage to Hayato's Life Points to win the duel. However, his father let Hayato stay at the Academy because he believed his son had actually learned something and he had friends who could support him.

Hayato's last duel against Professor Cronos is over whether Hayato will be allowed to leave Duel Academy and work for Industrial Illusions as a card designer. Cronos gains an advantage with the summoning of Ancient Gear Golem in his first turn, devastating Hayato's monsters, although he manages to make good use of the effect of Des Koala. He eventually summons Big Koala and uses Wild Nature's Release to give it enough attack points to wipe out Cronos's Ancient Gear Golem. He then plays Beast Soul Swap, allowing Hayato to resummon Big Koala and protect it from being destroyed by Wild Nature's Release. Cronos quickly recovers with Ancient Gear Factory, allowing him to summon another Ancient Gear Golem by sacrificing monsters with enough stars. He then destroyed Hayato's Giant Koala with ease. Hayato strikes back with the card he created, Ayer's Rock Sunrise, which allows him to reduce the attack points of all of Cronos's monsters by 200 for every Beast and Winged-Beast Sub-Type monsters in the Graveyard as well as resummoning his Giant Koala back into play. He then fused Big Koala with Des Kangaroo to summon Master of Oz, which attacked Ancient Gear Golem. However, Cronos played Limiter Removal which doubled Ancient Gear Golem's attack points, and allowed it to destroy Hayato's Master of Oz as well as wipe out the rest of his Life Points. Cronos, impressed with Hayato's play, allows him to leave for Industrial Illusions and his friends watch him leave into the sunset.
