Dawat-e-Islami (Template:Lang-ur, Template:Lang-ar, English: Invitation to Islam) is an international, non-political, propagational movement of Quraan and Sunnah. Dawat-e-Islami was founded in 1980 in Karachi, Pakistan, by Muhammad Ilyas Qadri. The movement is active in more than 72 countries.[1]
==Activities== "Jaamiat-ul-Madinah, Madani Qafila, Weekly and Annual Congregations, Charity collections, Madani Channel, Web Site and leading towards God, Muhammad, giving the true Purpose of Life and leading towards way of Jannah!
Dawat-e-Islami maintains its international headquarter in Karachi, and has several national and regional headquarters in 72 countries of the world. It's headquarters; either national or regional are called Faizaan-e-Medinah (Blessing of Medinah). The lower and lower-middle classes form the bulk of its cadres. Dawat-e-Islami is working in more than 41 fields. The two most significant activities of Dawat-e-Islami are madani qafila (missionary travel) and Madani Inamaat (self assessment questionnaires).[2]
Jaamiat-ul-Madinah
(literal meaning: institutions of Madinah) refers to institutions run by Dawat-e-islami in which 8 year Dars-e-Nizami (Aalim) course and Mufti course is provided free of cost, along with food and living facilities, if needed. Hundreds of Jaamiat-ul-Madinah have been established in various cities. More than 10,000 students are studying in these institutions. Only in Pakistan there are 110 jaamiat-ul-Madinah through out the country. The Jaamiat-ul-Madinah building at Dawate-Islami's International Headquarter, Faizaan-e-Madinah, Karachi, Pakistan can be seen in the picture (right).
Madani Qafila
Madani qafila (literal meaning: caravan of Madinah) refers to traveling to another area for learning and propagating Qura'an and Sunnahs. Dawat-e-Islami has reached more than 72 countries with the help of millions of madani qafilas, who undertake mission trips ranging from three days to a year. Each Qafila (caravan) is led by a emir. A specific syllabus has been prepared for teaching the person traveling in madani qafilas, with a typical three-day madani qafila covering such subjects as:
- Correct ways of salah (prayer), wudhu(ablution), ghusl (full ritual washing), and tayammum (waterless ritual washing).
- Neki ki Dawat - How to conduct dawah (missionary) work.
- How to give dars or bayaan (Islamic lectures).
- How to wake people up for Fajr prayers - called Sada-e-Medinah(literally Voice from Madinah).
- Dars (lessons) about Quraan and Sunnah are taught from various Sunni books, especially Faizaan-e-Sunnat.
Weekly and Annual Congregations
Dawat-e-Islami arranges weekly gatherings in thousands of cities of the world each week. These congregations start on Thursday night after either maghrib or Isha prayers. Only in India more than 500 weekly congregations take place in different district head cities each week.
- The ijtima is on held 322 acres of deserted land near multan, which is turning out to be small to held such a huge ijtima,so Dawat-e-islami is preparing to buy more land.[6]
- The Dawat-e-Islami held the first-ever congregation for deaf, dumb and blind students at its central headquarters Faizan-e-Madinah. Hundreds of students between 16 and 18 years of age attended the programme. They were given a revision session on how to pray, and character building.[7]
Charity collections
Dawat-e-Islami collects Zakat and Sadaqah in the holy month of Ramadan for its Dawah and organizational activities.[8] It is also largely financed by donation of sacrificed animal skin during Eid al-Adha, which is then sold to the leather manufacturing industry. This turns out to be a reliable source of funding as India and Pakistan have a well-established leather industry.[citation needed]
Dress Code
Members are expected to wear a green turban, brown shoulder cloth and a white dress (Kameez Shalwar). The long shirt should have alongside a chest pocket, an additional very thin pocket to hold the Miswaak (wooden toothbrush).
In Europe
Dawat-e-Islami has had a presence in the United Kingdom for more than fifteen years. The European headquarter is Faizan-e-Madina in Bradford, where they currently hold their own seminary. Other centers of the same name can be found in Accrington (161 Richmond Road [1]) and Birmingham. Another Faizan-e-Madina masjid was opened in Southend on sea in 2009, during the holy month of Ramadan In 2009 madrassa tul madinah opened in Rotherahm for the education of young children and adults. It is estimated that around 10,000 British Muslims are in some form or the other associated with Dawat-e-Islami in UK. In Continental Europe, Dawat-e-Islami currently operates five centres in Greece and three in Spain. The Faizan-e-Medina in Barcelona was set up in 2007 on the occasion of Milad Un Nabi.[9] Norway, Germany and Italy are also known to be countries with active presence of Dawat-e-Islami activities.
Madani Channel
Dawat-e-Islami operates its own non-commercial TV channel which does not show any advertisement, the MadaniChannel, which broadcasts Islamic programmes 24 hours a day.[10]
The programmes broadcasted include Hamd, Na'at, sermons, and "Question and Answer" sessions. Many programmes being telecasted on Madani channel have now become South Asia's most watched religious programmes.
