Live at Reading is a live CD/DVD released by the American grunge band Nirvana on November 2, 2009, chronicling its 1992 performance at the Reading Festival. Bootlegged for years following the performance, the new issues present the performance for the first time mastered and color corrected.[10]
The performance of the band's 1992 hit single "Lithium" was previously released on the home video Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! in 1994. The performance of "Tourette's" was previously released on the live compilation From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah in 1996.
Live at Reading marks the first time on a Nirvana release that Chet Powers receives songwriting credit for the use of his lyrics from the song "Get Together" as the intro for "Territorial Pissings". It features Cobain wheeled out on stage by music journalist Everett True.
Reception
According to Metacritic, Live at Reading holds a score of 93 out of 100, indicating "universal acclaim,"[11] and is ranked seventh on the site's list of best-reviewed albums. Krist Novoselic states that it's a great way to look back at his Nirvana memories.[12]
Sales and Impact
Live at Reading (CD version) debuted at number 37 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S.; the DVD version debuted at Number 1 in the top 40 on Billboard's Top Music Video Chart, remaining in the top 40 for 25 weeks.[13] Despite lack of promotion, Nielson SoundScan reports that Live at Reading has sold 50,000 copies in the United States alone,[14][failed verification] with more than 154,000 copies sold worldwide.
