Charlie Hall

Charlie Hall is a Christian worship leader and songwriter from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a member of a group of musicians and speakers that collectively form the Passion movement.

Band members

Hall's band, in which he performs vocals and guitar, consists of Kendall Combes (electric guitar), Brian Bergman (keyboard), Dustin Ragland (drums), and Quint Anderson (bass guitar).

Charlie Hall

Since 1991, Charlie has been traveling, songwriting, and sharing life with people in his home of Oklahoma City, and across the United States, and even across several oceans. He attended Cherokee Hills Baptist Church.

After the releases of two independent albums, Charlie Hall released Porch and Altar, which was labeled by sixstepsrecords, in 2001. Porch and Altar was the second album released by the label.[1]

Charlie has created several albums of diverse music. The latest is "The Rising".

As many of the Passion collegiate gatherings were recorded live, Hall was quickly dubbed "a voice" for the Passion movement, performing on all eight Passion albums, which have sold more than one million units.

Charlie expresses the desire to be "honed into God, where I'm not part of a culture where I'm trying to make the people around me think, 'Hey, that's a good Christian.' I'm just trying to pursue God and not pursue being accepted into a club...I'm more honed into my pursuit of God in Christ and how he's forming me and changing and helping me love him and know him." [citation needed]

Quint Anderson

Perhaps the only red-headed Mexican paintballer bassist in Oklahoma City, Quint has long defied any sort of categorization. His penchant for story and joke telling is legendary, his sense of humor lights up the folks who happen to be around him. Quint lives in OKC with his wife Micheal and their dog (who would like to remain anonymous), and works for Limbs For Life, a non-profit who finds donors for folks to help with the cost of otherwise too-costly artificial limbs. Quint is the one in the band we can rely on to provide a Xbox should we need. His melodic and textural sense of bass playing is more present on The Rising than ever, leading many of the songs into places that less courageous bassists fear to tread.

Dustin Ragland

Always asking himself, “what would Dostoevsky do in this situation?” Dustin brings the nerd influence to bear in the band, which is why you might find several random books in his over-laden bag that rarely leaves his side. Dustin enacts this nerdiness in OKC, where he lives with his wife Becca and dachshund mix Luna, who deal well with a small house full of big drums. Always trying to find a new angle to approach in drums, Dustin worked to use all live drums on The Rising, making loops out of all kinds of borrowed snares, ancient marching bass drums, his keys, and an old drum head, and who knows what else. A stubborn walker, you might see him walking in random places around his native OKC, looking for a proper spot for his dream place: a vegetarian cafe/ recording studio, where you can play some music and enjoy some falafel, all at once.

Ragland is the drummer, and became interested in drumming after listening to Live and the Offspring. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2003.

He is known to campaign for World Vision, Amnesty International, Sojourners and Compassion International. He lives with his wife in Oklahoma City, OK.

Dustin also grew up in Edmond, OK,attending Henderson Hills Baptist Church and playing drums in the Chi-alpha band with Anderson. In addition, Dustin has played with groups including the Shrubs and Trent Malloy.

Brian Bergman

You are as likely to find him advocating smart city development, pulling a thoughtful espresso shot, and chasing around his boys Brennan and Cohen, alongside his wife, Amber, as you are to find him bringing immense layers of synth and keyboard to Charlie’s songs. A man comfortable with using Rhodes’ and Junos inside-out and backwards, Brian brings his experience in piano skills and in synth exploration to add depth and electricity to the songs on The Rising. Playing a CP-70 like a harp, or coaxing the perfect lead tone from his Moog, Brian uses his love of patient music like Sigur Ros, thoughtful songcraft like Pedro The Lion, and indie dance like Passion Pit to create hooks and ladders within Charlie’s tunes. A man who loves his city, Brian works hard to further Oklahoma City’s strong growth downtown, where he is often enjoying food at Iguana, or coffee at Slingers. A towering presence (at 6’8″ this is quite true), his energy and intelligence onstage is infectious.

Bergman is the keyboardist of the band and loves old keyboards mixed with new technology. Combine a Yamaha CP-70 with programming, throw in some software synths and make sure there are lots of knobs to turn and he's at home. He has traveled with Hall for over ten years.

Brian and his wife Amber have two children and live in Oklahoma City, OK.

Brian is known to describe music in terms of fruit, particularly bananas.

Kendall Combes

He who hails from the home of the world’s tallest hill, Poteau, OK, is our guitar genius: Kendall, a family man with four kiddos, with his wife Beth, who has his hands in all kinds of projects and creations. Kendall builds his own class-A custom amps with Jason Stulce, is a talented and thoughtful producer and session musician, and brings a quiet authority to his guitar textures and melodies. His Mission Bell studio behind his home is indeed a sonorous fount of missional music, where even some of The Rising was recorded and worked out. Kendall has worked in this musical world for a long time, and brings depth of focus, and the joy of melody and atmosphere to the band-working hard on this new record to bring both mood and energy to his guitar ideas, not to mention his role as producer of this little endeavor-where he spun the plates of musicality and communication with verve and patience.

Combes plays the electric guitar in the band and has played the longest with Hall (since '97). He co-produced the Bright Sadness and produced The Rising. He originally played bass with MercyMe, and has played on occasion with Jami Smith, Stuart Townend, Brenton Brown, Vicky Beeching and Watermark. Furthermore, he has recorded with Shane and Shane, Watermark, and Jeff Johnson.

When not traveling Kendall produces music for independent bands and artists ( www.myspace.com/kendallcombes ). He also has a small instrument amplifier company called Stulce Amps (www.stulceamps.com).

Combes graduated from Poteau High School in 1988 and Oklahoma Baptist University in 1993.

Combes is married and has four children.
