John Edward Brown was the third Bishop of Cyprus and the Gulf [1] . Born on 13 July 1930[2] and educated at Wintringham Grammar School, Grimsby[3] and Kelham Theological College he was ordained in 1956 and began what was to be along association with the Middle East by becoming a curate at St. George's Cathedral, Jerusalem and master at the attached school[4] . Returning to England he became a Curate in Reading before 4 years missionary work in Sudan. Back in England he was Vicar of Stewkley, then Rural Dean of Sonning[5]. From 1978 until 1987 he was Archdeacon of Berkshire before elevation to the Episcopacy. He served the Church in the Mediterranean for 8 years before retirement to his hometown[6].
