Hi Letonroger

Don’t worry your message doesn’t come across as rude. Thanks for getting in touch. Like you I am concerned about the university and I most certainly do not want to give it a bad reputation. It’s important to me that the information on this page is complete, historically accurate, cites references, avoids presenting opinion as fact and is also in keeping with good Wikipedia practice. I felt that this was not the case in some areas of the current University of Brighton profile which is why I have made some edits, which I am happy to explain.

1. History section The University of Brighton has a complicated history, it was not just rooted in an art school. Whilst the ‘old History’ section provided a lot of detail (and unreferenced opinion) about the art school it did not mention the former Institute of Nursing and Midwifery (which became part of the university in 1994) at all and only mentioned the School of Education, Chelsea School and Faculty of Science and Engineering in passing. The old history also duplicates the history section in a separate Wikipedia page dedicated to the Faculty of Art , where I think it works much better.

The timeline I have added is referenced and creates a framework for more detail to be added. It is also an approach which is consistent with that taken by many other university profile pages where only brief historical details are provided.

2. Polytechnic in the introduction There are lots of different kinds of universities – Oxbridge, red brick, plate glass, post 1992, and more recently university colleges that have become universities. Polytechnics have a distinctive part in university history and I think it is helpful to place Brighton by making it clear what these roots are. Making the reference to polytechnics also enables readers to cross reference with other Wikipedia pages and is the practice on other profiles for other former polys see for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nottingham_Trent_University, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_Metropolitan_University,

‘Best teaching record in the UK’ I am concerned that this statement cannot be referenced to a recent or current source, which is why I removed it. Within the rankings and reputation section there are a number of referenced statements about achievement at Brighton which show how it ranks. Again ‘strong’ research record is opinion rather than referenced fact so I took it out.

I do plan to keep working on this page, and your feedback is really helpful.

best wishes Bogashpodel

Hey! Why are you changing Brighton Uni's page every single time! You changed it a lot, you got rid of some quite useful information! It seems like you want to give it a bad reputation! Can you please stop putting the Polytechnic part as the introduction, that's part of its history, it's not what it is right now. The old "History" section was much better, that timeline is not a proper text! I don't mean to be rude, please don't take it personally. I apologise if I am a acting bit rude.

well, I hope we solve our differences..

Best wishes, letonregor
