The Awesome Android is a fictional robot in the Marvel Universe. First appearing in Fantastic Four #15, he was created by Mad Thinker to do his bidding, although he later gained sentience and reformed. He currently appears in the pages of the She-Hulk comic book and adopted the name "Awesome Andy" and is now under the employ of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway, the law firm that employs Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk.
History
The Awesome Android was developed by the Mad Thinker from technology developed by Reed Richards, by incorporating unstable molecules into DNA replicating technology into a robotic body, powered by a solar battery. Despite superhuman strength and the ability to mimic surfaces such as The Thing's rocky exterior, he was defeated repeatedly.
He later became a member of the robot supervillain team Heavy Metal, under the leadership of the Super-Adaptoid. During a battle with [[The Avengers (comics}|The Avengers]], his head was torn off by Namor and he sank in the ocean.
He recently resurfaced in the pages of She-Hulk, having since gained self-awareness and reformed. According to She-Hulk #2 (written by Dan Slott), the law firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, and Holliway had him legally emancipated from the Mad Thinker and made into an American citizen. He now is a general office worker, performing menial tasks, although appears to find this much more fulfilling than doing the Mad Thinker's bidding.
Personality
As the Mad Thinker did not give him the ability to speak, he communicates through hand-gestures, body language, and a chalkboard that he has strung around his neck. Through this, he indicates that he cares deeply about his friends and his coworkers and is willing to fight to protect them. He also has several interests and hobbies, once depicted practicing tai chi and is as a New York Mets fan.
