Kyacey Uscola (born October 7, 1981) is an American professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. He was a cast member of SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz. Uscola has fought for brands such as Bodog Fight, KOTC, Gladiator Challenge, and Palace Fighting Championships.[1] He trains out of Sacramento, California with Urijah Faber.
Biography
Uscola was born and raised in Idaho and started wrestling when he was a the age of seven. He played football and continued wrestling, becoming a state champion in high school while attending Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho. He enrolled in Southwestern Oregon Community College hoping to obtain a Business Management degree. He was on the wrestling team while at Southwestern Oregon and was an All American his sophomore year. He transferred to Eastern Oregon University for his junior year in college because his former school did not have a football team.
Mixed martial arts career
When he was eighteen years of age he watched his first MMA fight and told himself that he could be successful in that, after hardly training at all he stepped in for his first fight and won by knockout. After the fight he went and started training to become an "unstoppable fighter".
After fifteen fights Uscola was asked by the newest MMA company Bodog Fight to come in and fight for them. Uscola agreed and had only seven days to train before the fight. Kyacey lost by a triangle choke in the second round. Bodog was so impressed that he had only seven days to prepare and almost winning his fight, they decided to give him three more fights (winning two of the three) before the company shut down.[2]
Uscola defeated Pride Fighting Championship veteran Akira Shoji in 2006 for King of the Cage. The fight was set to be a title fight but the day of the fight, KOTC changed it to a non title fight.[3][4] Kyacey lost to Xavier Foupa-Pokam and then two fights later lost to Mike Guymon at a King of the Cage event.
Uscola stepped up on 10 days notice to fight Jorge Santiago at Affliction: Trilogy, but the event was canceled and the bout never took place. He next fought for Urijah Faber's California Kid Promotions, winning his fight against Richard Blake via submission. He then lost a fight by decision against future TUF castmate Kyle Noke. Uscola most recently defeated Koffi Adzitso by TKO, improving his record to 18–15.
The Ultimate Fighter
He attended the open tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz and was selected as a contestant for the show.[5]
In the elimination round, to gain entry into the TUF house, Uscola defeated Brent Cooper via an early first round knockout. Tito Ortiz used his second pick to choose Uscola, making him the third overall pick.
Uscola fought Rich Attonito in the preliminary round of the competition. Uscola was disqualified after he hit Attonito with two illegal knees in the first round.
Uscola was chosen for one of the spots in the wild card selection, squaring off against teammate Kris McCray for the final spot in the quarter finals. After receiving news of the birth of his son, Uscola fought McCray and was defeated via submission americana in the second round, eliminating Uscola from the competition for a second time.
After filming Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, Uscola was attacked by two American pit-bulls, after a brief confrontation, the dogs injured his shoulder, hand, and penis. Uscola was able to start training again after ten days of rehabilitation.[6]
Personal life
While filming The Ultimate Fighter 11, Uscola had his first child, a son named Charles Champ Uscola.[7]
