China Economic Review (Chinese: 中国經濟評論, Pinyin: Zhongguo Jīngjì Pínglùn; also referred to as CER) is an independent English-language monthly business magazine and associated website published by China Economic Review Publishing. CER offers information and analysis on business trends in China through its various products. It claims to be one of the most widely read China business magazines by decision makers doing business in China. The magazine is domiciled in the United Kingdom, and its main editorial office is in Hong Kong.

History

China Economic Review was founded in 1990 by a publishing house in London and was purchased in 2003 by China Economic Review Publishing, and production was moved to Greater China.

Circulation and Readership

China Economic Review's distribution of around 25,000 copies per issue is audited by the Hong Kong Audit Bureau of Circulations. Subscribers are mainly in Hong Kong and mainland China. It is distributed by direct mail to business leaders and is also available in business centers and five-star hotels across China. Additionally, it is distributed in business and first class on nine international airlines: Air France, British Airways, Dragon Air, Austrian Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air Canada, United Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Tone and Voice

China Economic Review is an independent publication, and being based in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom it is not subject to editorial censorship within China. The magazine's main editorials and feature stories are written without bylines, creating a single editorial voice and consistent stance.

CER has frequently been critical of Chinese economic and political policies, but has recently voiced support of China in disagreements with Japan over the Diaoyu/Senkaku islands, and declared the 2010 Shanghai World Expo an "unqualified success."
