Career
Music career
IU debuted on September 24, 2008 with her first mini-album, Lost and Found, in which she was praised by various Korean artists for her strong vocals. On April 16, 2009, IU returned with her first full album, titled Growing Up, with her title song being "Boo." She started promotions for the album on the 17th. Within three weeks, "Boo" went up to the #1 contendants for SBS Inkigayo, and her name also went up twice on Take 7 together with other notable artists like SG Wannabe and YounHa. The song also did well on KBS Music Bank K-Chart, on Mnet M!Countdown chart, and on various online music charts.
IU often covers other artists' songs with her guitar, most notably renditions of SHINee "Juliette", Big Bang "Lies", Super Junior "Sorry, Sorry" and Girls' Generation "Gee". More recently, IU sung the ending title song, "Araro" for the acclaimed MBC drama, Queen Seon Duk, where she was recommended by the music director of the drama, citing her "clear tone and her lyrical sensibility." She also featured on Mighty Mouth's album Love Class in the song "희망사항."
She recently did a duet with 2AM's Seulong for their song "잔소리" (Nagging / Scolded). This song is also referred to as "우리 사랑하게 됐어요 2" (We Fell In Love 2). The song was created for the show We Got Married. On June 1, 2010, the teaser for the music video was revealed. On June 27, 2010, IU won her first award since debuting on SBS Inkigayo for "Nagging." On July 2, 2010, she won another award for that song on KBS Music Bank K-Chart. Not long after her winning on music show, IU was chosen to sing the main OST song for the new MBC drama Road No.1 titled "여자라서" (Because I'm A Woman) which is doing well on music charts too.
Solo activities
In August 2009, IU became a host for the new program Gom Music Chart on GomTV, a weekly show, where South Koreans netizens get to vote for their favorite songs on the charts. A fixed guest on Super Junior's Kiss the Radio and Maybee's Raise the Volume, it was announced on 19 October 2009 that IU would also become a fixed guest on Chin Chin Radio (hosted by Taeyeon) and Starry Night hosted by Park Kyung Lim and Shin Young on MBC. IU featured SHINee's Key, in the song "Love Letter For You (Noyegae Shineun Pyeonji)" as a rapper. As Girls' Generation member Taeyeon will be leaving MBC Radio FM4U 91.9Mhz ‘Chin Chin Radio’ , she was chosen as the temporary DJs for two weeks together with BEAST Doojoon. IU will also take part in a brand new variety show on SBS called Heroes. She is one of the 12 female members selected by SBS to cast in that new variety show. IU sang a duet with Sung Shi Kyung titled “It’s You“.
