Steve Lindsey

Steve Lindsey (born Stephen Brandon Holloway 12 March 1959) is an English singer-songwriter and musician best known for being bass guitarist and occasional trumpeter of the band Big in Japan.

Biography

Early Life

Steve Lindsey was born in 1959 in Liverpool in Merseyside, England. He was born Stephen Brandon Holloway. Lindsey went to the same primary and secondary school, and college as Holly Johnson, and the two befriended, and later went onto perform in the same band (Big in Japan.

His father, Brandon Holloway, was a gay rights activist.

Big in Japan

Lindsey's career was launched when his long time and school friend Holly Johnson was recruited onto the band Big in Japan. Johnson appraoched Lindsey and asked him to join as bass guitarist. Lindsey accepted, but, at first, was rejected by lead vocalist Bill Drummond. However, he was later accepted onto the band at the age of eighteen. He also rose to fame as he got the job as occasional trumpeteer on the band.

The band broke up in 1979.

Solo Career

After Big in Japan, Lindsey was offered a role in Frankie Goes to Hollywood, by lead vocalist Holly Johnson and drummer Peter Gill. Despite being Johnson's long-time schoolfriend and fellow performed on Big in Japan, Lindsey turned down the offer.

In 1980, Lindsey attempted at releasing his first solo hit single, entitled "Cravin' for It in Liverpool", which was partially succesful, but did not reach the charts. He attempted at releasing a second in 1982, entitled "Come and Get It Everybody", which was also the same.

However, the same year of 1982, Lindsey she released "She's Locked My Life Up In Her Suitcase", which was highly succesful.

In 1985, Lindsey performed his hit single "To Live & Die in Wembley", which he first performed alongside Jona Lewie and the Paul Rutherford of Frankie Goes to Hollywood-fame.

In 1986, Lindsey released his first album, entitled Steve Lindsey. The album included the songs "Cravin' for It in Liverpool", "Come and Get It Everybody", "She's Locked My Life Up In Her Suitcase" and "To Live & Die in Wembley".

In 1987, he released his next hit "Hit 'Im Once, Hit 'Er Twice", which he included in his next album A Real Product".

Activism

In 1987, during the release of hs album A Real Product, Steve Lindsey announced his homosexuality and how he had had an affair with fellow Big in Japan band member Holly Johnson.

In 2006, he announced he had a relationship with actor Joe Cacaci, and became a part-time gay rights activist.

Personal Life

Lindsey is homosexual and is in a strong relationship with actor Joe Cacaci and once had an affair with Holly Johnson.

In 1991, Lindsey offered support to former lover Holly Johnson after he was diagnosed with HIV positive.
