In a very recent article (2/19/2009) from MTV: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1605400/20090219/lil_wayne.jhtml ; There are 2 new pieces of information: Wayne's rock album Rebirth now has a set date for May 19, 2009. Wayne has also reiterated that Tha Carter IV will be released in 2009 before the holidays and he is also working on a Hot Boys Reunion LP and Young Money Entertainment LP.
Quote FTA: "In addition to Rebirth, Wayne is still working on Tha Carter IV, the Hot Boys reunion LP and an album featuring all the artists on his Young Money label, including Mack Maine, Jae Millz, Kid Kid and Nicki Minaj."
Please make these changes ASAP.

I've seen him live too, but he can still play, so it should still ist him as playing the guitar. He may not be that good yet, but he can play way better than stars like Madonna who claim they can play. So it should list him as able to play. It lists andre 3000 as able to play, while he's not amazing at it, he can still play. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Censor3000 (talk • contribs) 10:09, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

- Exactly ... a documentary posted by an anonymous uploader on YouTube can't be treated as a documentary at all. There needs to be credibility and reliablity in the publishing chain, or the source isn't reliable.—Kww(talk) 14:22, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Now that is just nonsense. It sounds like now you are simply biased and unfavorable towards YouTube. If it is the artist speaking, word for word, mouth per mouth, the exact words heard, it can't possibly be fake. If there was any altercations by the uploader, it would be somewhat to completely obvious. Osh33m (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Rock?
The classification of Lil Wayne as a rock artist is sketchy at best. Listening to these new "rock" songs, you realize that all he's really done is replace a synth line with a guitar line. The drums are also louder than the guitar (Traditionally rock is more centered on the guitar, with the drums providing rhythm.) To legitimately be called a rock album, there would need to be a lead guitar in the songs, not the sole rhythm guitar that is featured in Prom Queen. Even the "solos" are obviously just reworked synth parts. The relative lack of guitar in Hot Revolver is also questionable. At one point the normal drums are even abandoned for a traditional hip hop drum loop. Classifying Lil Wayne as a rock artist because of this album would require a re-evaluation of what rock is, and would probably require the addition of acts such as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys to the growing catalog of "rock artists." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.170.19 (talk) 21:25, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
i would also add that rock shouldn't be in his list of music genres. Smokiewight (talk) 04:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
SI
While dont I agree that Rebirth is a little less than most "Rock albums" out there, I'd have to agree with placing "rock" as a genre he does. "Rebirth" has been mentioned as a rock album in almost every publication that mentions it, therefore even if it's something less than say a Red Hot Chili Peppers album it still deserves it's title as a rock album. Deathawk (talk) 00:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
releasing a "rock" album don't make you a rock artist.Smokiewight (talk) 05:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Just cuz the media says some band or artist is a certain genre, it isnt nessecerily true... e.g. when the media says pop-punk bands are emo, which they obviously aren't... just cuz you write articles for a magazine or sutch, it doesn't make you capable of dictating which genre is what... the reason the media has said his latest album is rock, is because theese articles has been written by hip-hoppers, who doesn't know shit about what rock actually is... if you can find one single rock-magazine which says the album is rock, then it IS rock... sorry about my bad english...--Arneandre (talk) 21:41, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Ghostwriting
I've read on several websites that Wayne has had (and still have) ghostwriters (people who write songs for him). They would be Gillie the Kid, Drake and possibly more. I can't find any reliable sources though. Here are some of the sites where I've gotten this: #1 and #2. I had another one, but the site was apparently on Wikipedia's blacklist.
Maybe there should be a section on that if anyone finds reliable sources?

Lil Wayne gained fame through his rapping, and not his guitar playing, so the "instrument" field should say "Vocals" and nothing else. Similarly, while he is notable for being a rapper and CEO, he is not notable for playing guitar, so the "occupation" field should say "Rapper, CEO" and nothing else. He probably plays some other instruments (as most musicians do), but we shouldn't be listing them. GlassCobra 15:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Lil wayne collabrate many times with rapper Game
Gang affiliations
Saying that someone is affiliated with a gang is a serious accusation and could be seen as libelous if incorrect, especially on a BLP. So the evidence that this rapper is in fact associated with a gang requires above-average, exceptionally reliable proof. Let's take a look at the sources that have been attempted to be used to back up this assertion:
- [1] - not a reliable source; further, Lil Wayne is criticized by another rapper for pretending to be affiliated with a gang; if anything, this source would make the case against Lil Wayne being a Blood
- [2] - a copyright violation and therefore unable to be used; further, Lil Wayne does not actually say he is a member of any gang in the video
- [3] - "Lil Wayne’s clothing, hand gestures in music videos and rap lyrics all suggest" - this is original research, not to mention that the source is far from reliable
- [4] - not a reliable source, also says "Lil Wayne and Birdman and their alleged Blood ties" (again OR), again criticizes Lil Wayne for pretending
- [5] - not a reliable source, no mention of gang ties
- [6] - explicitly says that gang sign being performed by Lil Wayne is part of a PR campaign for his career
This sources are not sufficient to support the claim that Lil Wayne is a member of any gang. Per WP:V and WP:RS, the burden of proof is on the users trying to add material, an onus that has not been fulfilled here. The edit warring over this issue needs to cease immediately. GlassCobra 19:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well of note Streetgangs.com is very reliable for info about gangs. Not to add orgional research but he has said in over 300 songs "Blood Gang Motherfukker" or something of that. I disagree - Obama's the current commander in chief of the country, and to have him publicly stating that he keeps Lil Wayne on his iPod not only gives a bit of insight into his personal life (which admittedly, might belong on Obama's page, though it would look even more out of place there) is relevant, and certainly is indicative of the extent of Lil Wayne's appeal.

The gun possession charge
In the section about the NY gun possession charge, it states that the gun was found "on his person", only to state later: "police discovered a .40 caliber pistol on his person. The gun, which was registered to his manager, was in a bag located near the rapper." This is obviously a discrepancy, and further, New York State's gun laws are such that the difference between finding it on his person and finding it in a bag "near" the rapper is the difference between a relatively low-level "attempted possession of a weapon" charge, and a potential 25-year sentence for actually having a concealed weapon. If you check the link, it specifies that the gun was found in a bag "near" him, and while it did end up being linked to him, that's the reason he was out of prison in November rather than still being there now (with potentially years to go on his sentence).
