Fire World is a fantasy novel in the Last Dragon Chronicles series by Chris d'Lacey.[1] It is currently planned to be the second to last book, totalling seven books in the series.
The release date for the hardback edition of the book is the 6th January 2011, with the paperback edition being released on the 1st September 2011.
The other books in the series indicate that the main characters will be David Rain, Suzanna Martindale, Alexa Martindale, Elizabeth Pennykettle, Lucy Pennykettle, Tam Farrell and Arthur.
Human/Hybrid Characters
David Rain: a transdimensional alien (the species is called Fain) in the body of a man. He has spent five years in Ki:mera, the Fain world.
Alexa Martindale: The daughter of David and Zanna. She has no memory of her Fain pre-existence. She has wings growing out of her back, and is descended from Gwilanna on Zanna's side of the family.
Suzanna (Zanna) Martindale: Zanna is a Goth who fell in love with David at college and knows a great deal about dragons and other mythical creatures. She is a descendant of Gwilanna, a powerful sibyl, and is a sibyl herself. She lives with Liz, Lucy and Arthur, and is the mother of Alexa, David's child. She also has a dragon, Gretel.
Elizabeth (Liz) Pennykettle: The mother of Lucy Pennykettle. She has the ability to make clay dragons come to life. She is a distant but direct descendant of Guinevere.
Lucy Pennykettle: The feisty daughter of Liz Pennykettle. She is sixteen by the time she sees David back from Ki:mera.
Tam Farrell: A man imbued with the power of two polar bears, Avrel and Kailar.
Arthur Merriman: The husband of Liz Pennykettle. Although blind, he continues to wonder about David's existence.
Guinevere: The primary figure in dragon legend. She caught the dragon Gawain's fire tear (A dragon's life force. It is shed when the dragon is extremely sad or is dying. It is supposed to go to the center of the earth, called The Fire Eternal. Once it reaches it, the dragon will turn into clay.). Since the tear did not go to The Fire Eternal, he turned into stone. Guinevere took the tear and accidentally used it to create the Arctic ice cap.
Gwendolyn: Guinevere's daughter. She is a hybrid between Guinevere and Gawain and a sibyl, trained by Gwilanna.
Gwilanna: A sibyl that plays an important role in the first five books.
Clay Dragon Characters
Gadzooks: A powerful writing dragon. Skill/Power: Writing the future.
G'reth: A dragon Lucy Pennykettle made and the first dragon to commingle (mix with) the Fain. Skill/Power: Able to grant wishes (only beneficial to dragons). Wishes are made when thumbs are in G'reth's large paws.
Golly Gosh (Golly) Golightly: A dragon made by David. Skill/Power: : Natural healing and electrical/mechanical problems.
Gruffen: A guard dragon that usually sits in the Dragon's Den. Skill/Power: Knowing procedures of kindling from his manual.
Gwillan: A dragon that sheds his fire tear and causes an inversion in a block of obsidian. Skill/Power: Domestic duties.
Gretel: Originally made for Gwillanna, but later defects to Zanna. Skill/Power: Able to make potions with a variety of flowers.
Grace: David first girlfriend's dragon, Sophie Prentice. Skill/Power: Able to pick signals from other dragons.
Groyne: A dragon made by an Inuit shaman for Anders Bergstrom. Skill/Power: Telportation, invisibility, shape-shifting.
Gauge: A dragon that is mentioned only once or twice. Skill/Power: To tell the time.
Glade: A dragon given to Lucy's friend, Melanie. Skill/Power: Read moods shown by the colour of ivy around her neck.
Gwendolen: Lucy's dragon. Skill/Power: Electronics.
Gawain / Guinevere: A pair of dragons who rarely leave the Den. Skill/Power: Kindling dragons.
The Listener: His full name is not mentioned, and sits on top of the fridge. Skill/Power: Similar to Grace.
