British pianist, born 1929. Studied with Serge Krish and also received guidance from Alfred Cortot, Benno Moiseiwitsch, Clara Haskil and others. She studied composition with Paul Hindemith, Nadia Boulanger and Matyas Seiber.

Hatto has not played in public since 1976 due to an ongoing fight with cancer. Since then however, many recordings have been made, now totalling over 100 on the english label Concert Artists. Her recordings include complete cycles of Beethoven, Mozart and Prokofiev sonatas, the concertos of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Mendelssohn and the complete works of Chopin. She is also one of the few pianists to have recorded the complete Chopin-Godowsky Studies. She was a major proponent of Liszt throughout her early career.

She has been described as 'the greatest living pianist that almost no one has ever heard of'.
