Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya (Hindi: मन की आवाज़ प्रतिज्ञा) (English Meaning- Our Mind's Voice-An Unbreakable Oath) is an Indian soap opera that airs on the channel Star Plus starting December 7, 2009. The story depicts the life of a middle-class girl, Pratigya, who fights for her self-respect against the stigma and discrimination that prevails in Indian society.

Plot

The story, based in Allahabad, begins when Pratigya returns from college and is harassed by gang members. Pratigya slaps one of the boys, named Angad, and he decides to seek revenge. Then, another boy named Krishna sees her face and falls in love with her at first sight. He decides to marry her at any cost, even though both Pratigya's family and his father, Sajjan Singh, disapprove. Later, Pratigya and her family find out that Krishna is the son of the Thakur, who is the richest and most influential man in town. Pratigya's family realizes Krishna's obsession and arranges for her to marry a boy named Nitin, and the two complete their engagement. However, Angad severely injures Nitin, and Nitin's family calls off the wedding.

Later, Angad kidnaps Pratigya, and Krishna is blamed for it. However, as he is a Thakur, he does not face any consequences. Pratigya prepares to marry Krishna to take revenge on him for the kidnapping. To ensure that the Singh family treats Pratigya well, Pratigya's brother Adarsh decides to marry Krishna's sister Komal. During her marriage to Krishna, Pratigya takes a pledge to save her sister-in-law, Kesar. Kesar's husband beats her, and has made her have four abortions because he does not want a dark-skinned child. Pratigya decides to try to protect Kesar's unborn child, and succeeds. At the same time, Komal finds out that Adarsh used to be in love with a girl named Roli, an old friend of Pratigya's. The couple have a big fight, but stay together. Adarsh says that he loved Roli before the wedding, but forgot her later. Komal accepts her new life and starts to get along with the family.

Then, the servant of the house makes Pratigya eat some old pickle, which makes her vomit. As a result, her parents-in-law believe that she is pregnant and start celebrating. Pratigya tries to tell them that she is not pregnant, but Krishna stops her because wants to see his parents happy. Pratigya's mother-in-law Sumitra begins to suspect that Pratigya is not pregnant, and arranges a puja. Pratigya cannot sit in the puja and tells her in-laws the truth; however, they believe that she purposely lied to them to receive special treatment. Krishna does not defend her, and the family throws her out of the house. Pratigya, embarrassed and crying, goes to her mother's house. Krishna starts to miss her and regrets his actions, and he tries to bring her back home. Pratigya's family members, however, say that Krishna's father must take Pratigya home. Krishna's father goes to the house and brings his daughter back instead. He then says that, to come back, Pratigya must apologize for her actions. Angad then tells Pratigya's father about how he kidnapped Pratigya and attacked her fiancé. He also states that he took photographs of Pratigya naked and would distribute them if he was not given 500,000 in 5 days. Pratigya's father cannot get the money, so Angad says that he will marry Aarushi instead. Aarushi runs away from home, but Pratigya finds her and discovers that it was Angad who had kidnapped her. Pratigya confronts Angad and has him arrested.

Angad is released from prison and dies by slipping from the top of a deep, rocky ditch. Pratigya's father Shyam believes that he murdered Angad because he could have saved him, but failed. He is sent to prison and Pratigya and Adarsh hire a lawyer, Aman Mathur, to fight the case. For Shyam to be released, Pratigya has to talk to Krishna about how Angad kidnapped her. At the court case, Krishna finds out about the kidnapping and leaves home. Pratigya sneaks out with Krishna's friends to find him, and is bitten by a snake. Krishna finds her, removes the venom from her body, and decides to return home. While returning home, Krishna faints and Pratigya discovers that he has been poisoned. He is taken to a doctor, who tells Pratigya that he is in critical condition. Pratigya asks Krishna to wake up, and his vitals rise as she talks to him. Pratigya eventually declares her love for Krishna and decides to leave, but Krishna stops her. They talk to each other, and on Krishna's birthday they begin a romantic relationship with each other.

Later, Aman says that he wants Aarushi's hand in marriage, and Shakti and his mother assault Kesar, causing her to miscarry. Pratigya tries to have them arrested, but Kesar withdraws her complaint. Then, Adarsh is hit by a car and is admitted to the hospital in critical condition, but recovers and returns home. The family tries to find out who the driver was, and discover that it was Aman's younger brother, Jai. At the same time, the family believes that Komal is pregnant, but she is not; however, only Adarsh and Komal know the truth. Then, Pratigya and Krishna find Aman's real wife and tell her about Aman's plan to marry Aarushi. Aman's wife comes to the wedding, but does not reveal Aman's deception. As a result, Aman's father feels insulted and decides that the marriage will not take place. However, as Aarushi feels that Pratigya simply did not want her to marry a man more educated and cultured than Krishna, Aarushi decides to marry Shakti Singh. Despite the fact that he is married to Kesar, Shakti agrees to marry Aarushi because of the drama of her situation. When the couple comes home, Shakti asks Kesar to welcome Aarushi, but Kesar breaks down when she sees the two going into the bedroom. Aarushi then sets out to ruin Pratigya's life.

Later, Aarushi goes to a temple to pray, and hears Aman's voice saying that he has come to take blessings for his child. She then discovers that Pratigya was telling the truth. They both reconcile. Aarushi is taken back to her parents, Shyamu, and Naina by Krishna and Pratigya. However, Sajjan Singh and Shakti forcefully take Aarushi back. Shyamji arrives at Sajjan Singh's house with the police. Sajjan Singh says that Arushi is his daughter in law and the argument is a domestic matter which can be solved between husband and wife. The police asks Arushi if she was forcefully married and she cannot deny that the marriage was her choice. She also cannot say that she was forced or hurt in any way. Pratigya informs the police that Shakti is already married. The inspecter informs them that in that case no complaint can be made by Shyamji but a complaint can be made by the first wife. Sajjan Singh is pleased because it is obvious that Kesar will never have the courage to do that. Shyamji leaves bu saying that he will be back and he will save his daughter even if he has to take them to court.

Pratigya begs everyone to let Arushi go as Shakti is already married. Shakti says that the root of all problems is his frist marriage and that he will kill his first wife Kesar.
