Carver County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 70,205.

Geography

The county has a total area of 974 km2 (376 mi2). 925 km2 (357 mi2) of it is land and 49 km2 (19 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 5.08% water.

Demographics

As of 2000, there are 70,205 people, 24,356 households, and 18,778 families residing in the county. The population density is 76/km2 (197/mi2). There are 24,883 housing units at an average density of 27 persons/km2 (70 persons/mi2). The racial makeup of the county is 95.95% White, 0.59% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.56% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.87% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 2.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 24,356 households out of which 45.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.40% are married couples living together, 7.30% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 22.90% are non-families. 18.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.26.

In the county the population is spread out with 31.50% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 34.70% from 25 to 44, 19.50% from 45 to 64, and 7.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $65,540, and the median income for a family is $73,577. Males have a median income of $47,271 versus $32,107 for females. The per capita income for the county is $28,486. 3.50% of the population and 2.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.60% are under the age of 18 and 6.90% are 65 or older.
