3DS
I have added Maroi and Luigi as racers in the racers chart, as you see that they are shown as drivers in the video, "video game line-up" for the Nintendo 3DS official website!!!!!!!!
wrong?
This article states "In every Mario Kart game with the exclusion of Mario Kart Wii, there has been at least one beach stage". But I am pretty sure that the Wii version actually does include a beach stage. It is one of the retro stages from the SNES of GBA version. But still, saying that it doesn't is clearly wrong.
It is actually from GameCube not Game Boy Advance. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 03:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC).
Copy-cats?
This page should mention all of the mario kart rip offs. Theres crash, smurfs, antz, toy story, pacman... almost every developer trys to cash in on the success of mario kart and it kinda ticks me off. this page should mention it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.233.100.129 (talk) 01:55, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
WiFi Hacking
I am not a particularly good writer, so I'll just provide the ground information and leave the actual editting of the article to someone better suited than I.
The first known instance of Nintendo's DS games being hacked online occured in mid-December, 2005 by a hacker from GSCentral (http://www.gscentral.org) known as Parasyte. The hack allows several courses that were previously available off-line only to be played on-line. These courses include Banshee Boardwalk and Airship Fortress. Rumors abound about supposed side-effects of playing online with Parasyte, including game data being erased, the game crashing, and massive losses being added to the user's record. However all these claims have been proven to be false. Despite this, the rumors still spread.

Too many tracks?
The "tracks" section of the article was made to give information about re-occuring tracks in the Mario Kart series, such as Rainbow Road and Bowser Castle. Now, with twelve track-types listed, I think the list is getting too long. The purpose of the section is not to list every Mario Kart track-type that ever existed. I intend to remove some, if anyone disagrees discuss here. The- 16:52, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
I have now removed "Dirt-road tracks", "Jungles" and "Mud tracks". If anyone disagrees discuss here. The- 17:11, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
While I'm fine with the removal of Dirt Road and Mud Tracks, there are enough instances of Jungle Tracks (in 4 of the games if IIRC) for it to be mentionable. --ACE Spark 15:44, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
I would consider cutting the "recurring tracks" down to Circuits, Bowser Castles and Rainbow Road, because these tracks tend to have the greatest game influence (the first or last track in GP's). --MaskedSheik 18:10, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

MK64
The Mario Kart 64 section needs cleanup. 68.194.16.14 23:41, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Balloons are not popped. They are simply detached from the kart.
There must be a discussion about the different abilities of the characters. Heavyweights such as Wario, Donkey Kong, and Bowser are less maneuverable and accelerate more slowly, but what they lack there they make up for in body mass. These characters, and even yoshi and mario, can "body" (collide with) smaller characters and take away balloons that way, no weapon needed. I would also like to see a mention of the welfare system in the races. If you are in last place you are likely to get powerful items such as lightning or triple red shells, but in first you would not get such items. The item is truly given randomly only in battle mode. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rarichter (talk • contribs).
Critical Acclaim
As of 23 May 2006, the article states, "To this date, gamers consider these games inferior to the Mario Kart titles, Diddy Kong Racing being the only title to gain a similar volume of critical acclaim in addition to a large fanbase."
Is this really correct? I'd certainly argue that Crash Team Racing has also received similar critical acclaim to the Mario Kart series. For instance, video game review aggregator GameRankings.com has Crash Team Racing with an average review score of 92% [1]. , which is comparable to Mario Kart DS's 92% [2] , Mario Kart Super Circuit's 92% [3] , Mario Kart Double Dash's 87% [4] , and Super Mario Kart's 93% [5] .
On another review aggregator, Metacritic, Crash Team Racing has a score of 88 [6] , fairly similar to Double Dash's 87 [7] , Mario Kart DS's 92 [8] , Mario Kart 64's 83 [9] , and Super Circuit's 93 [10].
Is it appropriate to say, then, that Diddy Kong Racing is the only kart racing to gain critical acclaim similar to the Mario Kart series? Kuribosshoe 05:21, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Wait, does half of this stuff actually need to be in the article?
Just to take a few examples, items and battle modes are explained in the individual game articles as well as here. Does anyone else think that this article should be about Mario Kart in general rather than an explanation of every feature in every game? -- Steel 20:58, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. The article should talk about the conception of the game series, from where the idea was picked, the commercial achievements, the storyline of the different games, the technological advances between each other, why the items were chosen, etc. In other words, this article is about the series, not the games, thus information found in the other articles should be kept in those articles. -- ReyBrujo 03:22, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- Having being the one to suggest these changes, it's a bit annoying having to ask this, but where would we find that kind of information? I guess commercial achievements wouldn't be too hard to find, but the rest (if it is indeed available on the web) would be buried under hundreds of Mario Kart DS fansites and the like. -- Steel 23:42, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- That is the hard part of writing articles. For one side, we have information that everybody knows. For the other, we have detailed information that is not known. I believe every Nintendo fan knows what is Mario Kart about, but very few know how was that Miyamoto (or the original designer) came with this idea. Articles should have varied information, and cover as much about the topic as possible. Just ask yourself a question: what the casual reader needs to know? That is the basic information for the article. And the next question, what a knowledgeable reader needs to know? That is the expanded information, which is usually harder to come by. -- ReyBrujo 01:42, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2
According to http://themushroomkingdom.net/news.shtml#9800, this game has been recently anounced. Waluigi and a character from the Tamagotchi series will be new characters to the series. Do MKDS retro tracks count?
I notice a the tracks section seems to count MKDS retro tracks as part as MKDS. For example, untill a few minutes ago, it said that MKDS has two snow tracks, but of course it only has one, Frappe Snowland is an MK64 track not an MKDS track. They are not unique to MKDS, they are borrowed from retro games. Furthermore, the retro tracks in MKSC are not counted, which means the MKDS retro tracks shouldn't be counted either. Why should the MKDS retro tracks count but not the MKSC retro tracks, they are both tracks that are borrowed from previous MK games, what's the differece? If the MKDS retro tracks are added back in, then the MKSC tracks must also be added in. I think they shouldn't be put in, as they are not unique to the game they are borrowed from previous games, and I will revert any unexplained attempts to put them back in. The- 18:40, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Where the hell did you get the idea that if the track is not unique to the game that it shouldn't be included? if it's in the game it should be listed what you're saying is to remove the name of a track that is in the game from the games list of tracks? not to smart...SuperWiki5 23:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

External links
I notice two pages being added constantly: www.mariokart64.com (Mario Kart World Record Page) and wrvids.com/Mario%20Kart/ (Time Trials videos for every Mario Kart game). I don't think these are necessary, as nobody cares what who are the fastest ones. The first one has most of its content about Mario Kart 64, and should be put there if anywhere. The second is just a directory, not even a web page to check. Considering that these videos can be considered copyright violation (the content is copyrighted by Nintendo), it should not be linked at all. -- ReyBrujo 15:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Mariokart64.com is widely considered to be the ultimate authority on everything related to Mario Kart time trials, and time trials is an important part of Mario Kart. Whether you're looking for world records, world rankings, strategies, shortcuts, news, history, statistics, or technical information, mariokart64.com has been the best source of information by far for many years. The website contains a very large amount of information that many people are interested in and that can't be found anywhere else. The website is non-profit with 0 advertisements, updated frequently, and run by people who are very knowledgeable about Mario Kart.
Wrvids.com (also non-profit) is by far the largest online collection of Mario Kart videos, so it belongs in the Mario Kart article for the same reason that SDA (largest collection of speedruns) belongs in the speedrun article. The videos are not copyright violations because they're fair use. Mjf314 10:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

last time I looked on this page, it included a whole topic on game modes. which was completely taken away and information from it was randomly placed throughout the article. "Recurring tracks" -- listcruft?
Looking through the article, I noticed this section. Now, I'd be fine with keeping that part of the article, had it not been so long. Really, the only things that should be mentioned are the Bowser tracks, Rainbow Road tracks and possibly the Circuits in a brief paragraph or two. Maybe all the recurring themes could be mentioned, provided not all the track names are mentioned and there really is more than just one kind of these raceways. The fact that "Clocks" (which I promptly removed, as it only mentions one track) and "Fairground" (which really only consists of one track listed twice) made it in makes me think it's just meant to be a section where all the raceways in the Mario Kart series are listed. I won't do any heavy editting just yet; I'd like to hear others opinions on the matter first. ^_^ Hardcore gamer 48 10:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, in my opinion, the name speaks for itself. It should be a section on the most recurring themes in the games. I think the Bowser Castles, Beaches (it does appear frequently, right? I know at least each console game had one), Circuits, and Rainbow Roads should be the only things mentioned, unless there is another high frequency theme that I am forgetting. --LuigiManiac 12:39, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- That sounds fair enough. Also, the "haunted" levels appeared in each game, I believe. Hardcore gamer 48 09:18, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Why did snow tracks get removed? There's been one of those in every game too. The recurring track themes seem notable but there ARE a lot of them... maybe a seperate article should be used? I dunno. Jez MM (talk) 01:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

- Peach
- Wario
- Waluigi
IGN's vid of the E3 announcement shows:
- Baby Mario
- Luigi
- Toad
- Yoshi

Will we need protection for this article?
It seems like random IP addresses are coming on here lately and stuffing around with the Playable Characters table. I know that this isn't an isolated problem, but this is just going to keep on happening if something isn't done (considering people are actually finding the new Mario Kart to be exciting, and will want to put in the characters they want in the game). Table formatting?
Since many characters in the series are exclusive to one or two games (especially the Namco exclusives), approximately half of this table is filled with . I find this distracting, so I'm going to ask if the table will look better if we just leave those spaces blank rather than specifically saying "no". After all, there's for every character who does appear in a game, "?" for unknown possibilities in MKW , so anything else is a "no" by default.
Please compare the two and tell me what you guys think:

I belive that the 2 Mario Kart GP game should be rmoved from anything listing the games in the Mario Kart series. Nintendo was no involved, they are arcade games, and they have nothing to do wiht the Mario Kart series. Boo in Mario Kart: Double Dash?
As far as I know Boo is not a playable character in Mario Kart: Double Dash. I own the game and am pretty sure that Boo is just an item. King Boo on the other hand is a playable character in the game but is a completely different character and is also listed here. If I am correct, this would also change the Mario Kart Wii page which says "Making his second playable appearance in the Mario Kart series is Boo". —bse3 (talk • contribs • count • logs) 04:39, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

And i figured out how Baby Boo started, a magazine stated "Baby Peach, and Boo are playable." Perhaps the n00bs mistaked it as Baby Boo?SLJCOAAATR 1 (talk) 22:35, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I keep trying to fix it, but once i finish editing it back up, they put the character template in random place's, add comic book characters and tick all of the characters. - Dancingcyberman 19:54, 14 March 2008 (GMT) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dancingcyberman (talk • contribs)
The Character List
Why does it keep moving around the page, the likes of Sonic and Toadsworth getting entered and ticks for most characters including Donkey Kong Junior? I was in the middle of making 2 seperate templates (One for the Main series, and one for the Arcade one) when i see that the whole page has been vandalised. Help? -[The-DC]- (talk) 20:06, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Who the Hell moved the list around? Someone put Nikoo in there. Who the hell is he? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.161.227 (talk) 01:49, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Fixed it, all characters unconfirmed now have question marks and unconfirmed newcomers have been removed. I shall keep an eye on this topic. -[The-DC]- (talk) 11:49, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Someone really needs to lock this page from editing. The same thing happened in the Super Smash Bros. series page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.161.227 (talk) 20:25, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Nikoo still appears on the page, and there is a X on Birdo. Dixie Kong is also there with a tick. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.49.187.208 (talk) 23:50, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Man, I came here to see what the new characters were for the new game. I clicked "List of Mario Kart characters" in the Mario Kart Wii article, but... there's no list here. Just a note that says "malteser is a playable character." What the heck? 69.218.77.109 (talk) 11:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

While we're on the subject of the character list; would Baby Peach be considered a Mario character or a Yoshi character? Arcade GP separation
I think it would be better if the Arcade GP games were put in their own section and mentions of them struck from when the games are compared together. They're really not "official" Mario Kart games and when people think Mario Kart, they think SMK-64-SC-DD-DS-Wii and not many people have even heard of the Arcade GP games.
They were a third-party joint venture that weren't even on Nintendo consoles and it's obvious that they've strayed a little too far from the main games to be considered part of the whole group. Maybe turn them into a subseries?
GaeMFreeK (talk) 07:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that I agree. The Arcade games are still a part of the series, regardless if people have heard of them before or not. What do you call "official"? Games one can play at home? Games made solely by Nintendo? I'm not sure it's worth splitting a subseries into another subseries... though, I'll concede that the character roster looks a lot neater without the GP games there. Ace of Jokers (talk) 20:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
"One for every console since the SNES era"
In the intro paragraph, it had been stated that At least one Mario Kart game has been released for every Nintendo console since the SNES era. The original Super Mario Kart was released in 1992, however NES games had been developed by Nintendo up until 1994 and original Game Boy/Game Boy Color games were developed far beyond this. There were no incarnations of Mario Kart for either of these systems... and lets not the Virtual Boy. As such, I deleted the statement... I tried to rework it, but adding exceptions just made it seem trite, especially since the following sentence goes on to explain To date, there have been four Mario Kart games for home consoles, two portable games, and two arcade games. Waluigi
Why is Waluigi being listed as a main character? He has appeared no more frequently than Daisy, who is listed as a side character. I personally think that he has even less of a history than Daisy or several other side characters as he's never even really been in a mainstream (actual storyline) Mario game. Perhaps he should be moved to side characters? Raspheba555 (talk) 11:48, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Exactly what i was thinking.9legoboy9 (talk) 18:02, 19 March 2009 (UTC)9legoboy9
- He's appeared in 4 of the last 5 games, and the last 3 games in a row. Daisy has only appeared in 3 games, one less, and none of them in a row. Also, none of the side characters have appeared in two games in a row. There all random and around the place, although if daisy is in the next game i think that constitutes as her moving up the ranks. IAmTheCoinMan (talk) 04:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Character table
All games have some prose about characters. Sometimes it doesn't fit in the article, so there are separate lists. Games like Mario side series, Super Smash Bros Brawl, or other Fighting games have tables because the character's information are listed in different places. I don't think the policies DKqwerty pointed out really affect this. Blake (Talk·Edits) 18:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- This information, which violates WP:NOTGUIDE, is widely available on various gaming sites and is simply of no encyclopedic or historical value. DKqwerty (talk) 13:27, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- I don't see how it is a guide. It is valuable list of main characters. Like I said before, while other games have characters listed in prose, these games have character information elsewhere, and this is needed to direct the reader to them. Where does WP:NOTGUIDE say anything about character lists? Blake (Talk·Edits) 13:43, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- Also, might I add that you are the one who has no consensus to remove them. The tables were there for years, and you removed them. Therefor, you are the one going against "consensus". Blake (Talk·Edits) 13:46, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- I have brought this issue to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#Character tables to gain a better consensus. Blake (Talk·Edits) 14:14, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- The result of that discussion was inconclusive, but I agree with Blake, and therefore have restored the table. Qwerty, you should have discussed your massive removal of content before BOLDly doing it Purplebackpack89 03:33, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, given the number of policy violations, there was no need to discuss before removing and given the continued violations, the only thing keeping me from removing it again is WP:3RR. This table violates WP:NOTGUIDE (in my opinion) and clearly violates WP:V (there is not one valid ref given), WP:LSC ("The inclusion of items must be supported by reliable sources"), WP:IINFO, and in its current state WP:CRYSTAL (speculative character list for future game Mario Kart 3DS). With the large number of policy violations (particularly with regard to reliable sourcing), I saw no need to discuss these issues before removing it. Furthermore, the table's footer makes zero sense and seems completely out of context (in addition to being unsourced). Also, if you refer to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#Character tables, it's clear that most editors do not support such tables in the articles of series like Mario Kart or Mario Party. While it's clear that you do not share this view, you should probably defer to the collective wisdom on this one: character tables in an article like this one are useless and simply consume space. DKqwerty (talk) 15:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Beta
This edit has been reverted. It is constructive. Stuff that comes out before the game is actually released is considered beta. I play video games. I know how this stuff works. --ϐαςς ᴶαϟϟιFile:Japas Artwork.png 19:12, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Beta, by definition, means: "A beta test is a limited release of a product with a goal of finding bugs before the final release. Software testing is often referred to by the terms "alpha" and "beta.". Don't revert an edit and say it's vandalism if you don't know what it means. A screenshot from a game in early development is by definition, beta. --ϐαςς ᴶαϟϟιFile:Japas Artwork.png 19:17, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I was the one who changed it initially. But I didn't change it because I "[do] not know what beta is". I had to undo everything that happened in January because the article was reverted to a version from a year ago. I didn't even realize the caption had been changed. I don't think we can call it beta though. The source does not say that, in fact there is no source provided. All we know is that it is from some point in development. I actually think it should be removed or replaced with a more relevant image. That image depicts Mario Kart Wii in development, and this article contains absolutely no content about Mario Kart Wii's development. Let's use a more relevant image.
