The following persons attended the University of Oxford, though did not necessarily complete a degree course there.
This list of old members, or alumni as they are often referred to today, has been divided into categories, but it should be noted that these categories are somewhat arbitrary. Many of the university's alumni have been polymaths (for instance William Ewart Gladstone was a prominent classical scholar as well as Prime Minister; some theologians could equally well be considered as philosophers). In these cases an attempt has been made to put them into the category for which they are most famous.
Oxford alumni include at least 10 kings of six different nations, 53 presidents and prime ministers of 19 different nations (including 25 British prime ministers), seven saints, one pope, 18 cardinals, 86 archbishops, three Fields medallists and 47 Nobel prize-winners (including winners of all categories). Many of these old members are listed below.
