Jared Samuel Sunshine was born in 1981 in Santa Monica, California to Carl Allen Sunshine and Tove Skjelbørg Sunshine, and has two younger brothers, Aaron and Nathan. He resided in Culver City until the age of six, at which time his family moved to West Los Angeles. He attended the Pressman Academy for grades four through six, and eight; Walter Reid for grade seven; and Shalhevet School for grades nine through twelve. He then moved to New York City, New York to attend Columbia College at Columbia University. There he was vice president for public relations of the campus chapter of the ACLU, and college representative to the President's Committee for Campus Security. He pledged the Zeta Psi Fraternity in 2001, and served as its vice president in 2002; he was also inducted into the Order of Omega Greek honors society and served as its vice president for membership in 2002. He graduated in May 2004 with a degree in Psychology and Political Science.
He has worked at the Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, California; and at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
At present, he maintains two active blogs. “We live in borrowed sunshine” is a chronicle of the more entertaining episodes of his life, and “The sunshine of the people” is a collection of his nonfiction writings and essays.
