History

The First Kazan International Festival Of Muslim Cinema took place in the capital of Tatarstan - Kazan - from the 5th to the 11th of September 2005 and was devoted to the 1000th anniversary of Kazan. About 20 countries took part in the festival. Like the first festival, the second «Kazan International Festival Of Muslim Cinema» also was held in Kazan under motto «religious tolerance and political correctness». A total of over 175 pictures from 25 countries have been sent in. The third Kazan International Festival Of Muslim Cinema has strengthened its significance in the world cinema. And there's one more thing of importance here: it gave rise to new ideas. The guest of honour of the festival in Kazan was The French actress Catherine Deneuve and Kazakhstan's ambassador to UNESCO Olzhas Suleimenov, came up with the initiative to declare the coming year the year of cultures' closeness. This is exactly what was seen at the festival of Muslim films in Kazan, whose motto was "Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue". The chairman of the selection commission Sergei Lavrentyev is of the opinion that the films that were shown in Kazan offer proof that the potential is not fully untapped here. It was exactly at the festival of Muslim films in Kazan that I once again made certain that all people are brothers. Filmmakers had a chance to learn more about the cultures of countries, which submitted their films to the festival. And understand that such religions as Judaism, Christianity and Islam, which one considers different enough, come into contact.
