The Voice Cast/Main Characters

As a suggestion, why don't we combine both? (It'll probably make it more neater)...:) --Joel 04:48, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pizza Planet Truck

Did any of you, yourself, not by what someone else said, you, see the Pizza Planet Truck? I have had multiple viewings of The Incredibles, more than 10 and when i heard that the Pizza Planet Truck was on the freeway with the trailer van i looked at that scene frame by frame and no luck. I could not spot it. Anyone seen it? --Bawpcwpn 17:46, 07 June 2005 (NIST)

Miss Invisible?

Where did this name come from? I've seen The Incredibles 4 times now, and I don't recall Violet ever being called this. --Joe Sewell 18:27, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I do not believe that she is ever referred to as this in the movie. There is a scene where one of Syndrome's henchmen calls her "Little Miss Disappear," which is probably where this came from. --Xanadu 22:03, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I suppose we could include some of the non-US names, such as Mr. Incredibles and Mrs. Incredibles (from Japan). --Joe Sewell 21:52, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I'd call her Violet Incredible. --Kanjilearner

Comic Book References and Movie Tributes (Disputed)

Much of this section is entirely POV.

I've noticed that some want to remove the Elastigirl section, which may or may not be POV. I vote to have this, or rather these section(s) removed as well.

--Joelkirk 02:29, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I completely agree on that one. -[Jayleigh]

"Watchmen also echoes the theme from Powers where superheroes live in a world where their powers make them resented." - isn't that backwards? That is, doesn't Powers echo Watchmen as opposed to the other way around? --Ryano 14:46, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I went ahead and edited that, so the Watchmen references come before the Powers ones --Ryano 14:59, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I placed an accuracy dispute tag. Since we are going to remove the 'Appeal of Elastigirl' section, I believe this section--Comic Book References (and possibly the 'Themes' section)--needs to have solid facts backing it up, or removed entirely.--Joel Lindley 04:59, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Safari

This page will cause Safari to crash on my systems. Further accounts are probably needed to confirm this to be systemic. --Xanadu 22:03, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

This page crashes safari on mulitple systems, including a g5 and a dual 533 G4. This behavior can be reproduced and even happens when using IE 5.2 for macs. Something on this page (near the bottom) is apparently causing something in mac subsystem to crash --UT Lab Assistant

I wonder if it has anything to do with the images and "edit" links vying for space in the subsections under Mature Themes in "The Incredibles". Even on my windows/firefox configuration, it loads fine, but the edit links get messed up and put near the bottom. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 21:11, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

Removal of several images seems to have resolved Safari crashing. --Xanadu 21:19, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The image that causes the problem is the one of Mirage. It crashes Internet Explorer and Safari to my knowledge, I haven't tried others. I've removed the link thus isolating that image. I've also added a warning on the image page about it. Unfortunately I can't get to a place where I can download the image to try and fix the corruption in an image editor. If anyone can do that it would help - while you're at it, 182K is waaay too big - it should be possible to get this down to 30K-ish without sacrificing too much detail.Graham 00:43, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Elastigirl

While it appears that Elastigirl is a very popular character...do we really need all these pictures of her? --Xanadu 21:35, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

It's okay. I think the amount we have currently is enough to get through the popularity of the character. --Joelkirk 11:01, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Syndrome's lair and alias

There's no reference in the article to Syndrome's lair. Come on, that's got to be the best lair ever! Also, there's no mention (last time I checked) to Syndrome's previous alias. What was it? "Incrediboy" or something? Regards, Redux 18:00, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oh, I don't know. It was your typical run-of-the-mill spurned-fanboy-turns-evil-multimillionaire-with-island kind of lair. :) :) :) As for Syndrome's previous alias, it was indeed "Incrediboy" ... or at least he tried to make it so. I'll see if I can work that much in somewhere. --Joe Sewell 04:54, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Syndrome's "Incrediboy" alias was used all over the article, Redux! Still, I added a small note about it in the Characters section, in Buddy Pine's paragraph. --Joe Sewell 05:07, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your time anyway. In my defense, it appears as though the article has been altered a bit since I was last here. I'm pretty sure that when I first read it, there was no mention at all to "incrediboy" (since there was way more focus on elastigirl). Good to see that this has been fixed. Regards, Redux 21:50, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Video Game References

I don't see how zero point energy can be considered a reference to Half Life 2. Zero point energy is a quantum physics topic that's been around for about 20 years.

Besides, how could The Incredibles reference a game that hadn't been released yet? Granted, Half Life 2 was released about a week and a half after the Incredibles, but zero point energy shouldn't be considered a reference. That's like saying The Saint references Chain Reaction because they are both about cold fusion.

I move for deletion, but want some other opinions.--Phobetor 02:09, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

To me, it's a tough call. While it isn't necessarily a true reference (unless somebody at Pixar beta tested Half Life 2), there's more of a connection there (in terms of delivery systems) than to the high-math Wikipedia page. --Joe Sewell 17:25, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

In fact, are any of the video game references valid for inclusion in Wikipedia? It's not appropriate to write something that only the writer notices or agrees with. SpaceCaptain 19:47, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I suugest leaving the reference listed, and state that it might be just a coincidence. The same happens with the train sequence and Spider-man 2. --Pabter 13 Mar 2005

Remove the reference. On the Incredibles DVD there are storyboards from the very earliest development stages of the film, and they show the use of this "zero point energy" ability. Given that The Incredibles and Half-Life 2 were probably both in the earliest stages of development about four years ago, there's no possibility that The Incredibles could have gotten this idea from Half-Life 2. - Brian Kendig 15:04, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

similarities to other films

The article mentioned the Return of Jedi forest chase scene and volcano based distroy the world plots that are reused in this movie. Have anyone noticed that the save-the-L-Train scene is from Spiderman 2? The missile shooting the jet plane sequence is from X-men 2. Kowloonese 01:19, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)

I put the Spiderman 2 similarities in the article. I noticed that it was missing! Scorpionman 02:50, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Appeal of Elastigirl"?

The entire section "Appeal of Elastigirl" is blatantly POV. "There is a question—obviously by male viewers—on whether or not it is right to say the characters of Mirage and Elastigirl are sexy eye-candy." This assumes that women won't find them attractive and that men will. I personally don't find either of these characters sexy; Mirage is too one-dimensional, and Elastigirl reminds me too much of my mom. And I completely disagree with the assertion that Elastigirl's "apparent assets add a certain physical sex appeal" or that "Helen represents the ideal companion." The last sentence in that section, "We may not see an upsurge of human/CGI character relations, but..." is completely speculative and nonfactual. And why is there an "Additional Images of Elastigirl" section but no additional images of the other characters? I want to remove the whole "Appeal of Elastigirl" section, but I figured I'd post about it here first to find out whether anyone else agrees with me. - Brian Kendig 14:47, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I agree that section was pointless even though I do have a sick cartoon crush on Mirage... Another vote for removal of the section. It just doesn't look professional. --Anonymous Cow 23:34, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I say delete as well. In fact, I once did delete the section, but somebody put it back. Talk about unencyclopedic... SpaceCaptain 00:57, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The appeal of Elastigirl is a surprisingly widespread cultural phenomenon, though nothing to write a whole paragraph or more on. I'd say keep and clean-up (i.e. shorten it to a passing mention). --b. Touch 02:20, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'm restoring it for now. The section could use cleanup. The "additional images" section is okay in my book--if people like Elastigirl they'll come to this article and will probably expect to see some pictures of her. Elastigirl's appeal (which is not solely sexual) seems to be real enough and the article should deal with this.--Tony Sidaway|Talk 17:44, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

OK, could someone who sees some worth in this section edit it down then? I'd do it, but I'd edit into nothing. DenisMoskowitz 19:06, 2005 Mar 24 (UTC)

This section keeps being edited down and restored. We have an edit war on our hands... SpaceCaptain 23:31, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Me, I think Violet looks much prettier. When does she turn 18? =) JIP | Talk 17:55, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree =) But I understand the appeal of Elastigirl, and I say keep the section. — Jesse's Girl | Please talk! 19:18, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

My god, what "widespread phenomenon"? A few people on message boards going "zomg elastigirl got back, id hit it"? Please. You could write a section like that on virtually ANY fictional female character out there. That section needs to be deleted now. --Marcg106 01:35, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree...even though I started it. I also believe we should delete the comic book tributes since those aren't really factual just assumptions...Joel Lindley 04:56, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Doubts RE: Comic book references

The idea that "Metroville" is a combination of Metropolis and Smallville is creative, but weak. I'm confident it's a generic name for a fictional city (like "The City" in the Tick's world or "Townsville" in the Powerpuff Girls cartoons). There are also references to Municiberg (on police scanner & el train) in the film. Both boil down to "City Town", i.e. Generic City. Link to the Spirit is also tenuous. Mr. I had to change into something for dinner, and a suit is the obvious choice. The resemblance to the Spirit is there, but is almost certainly coincidental. --Pickman 18:53, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • A lot of the "references" seem to be more in the line of similarities and not outright references. In particular, Syndrome being modeled after Vegeta or Freakazoid. Either these need to be removed or the article needs to be altered to include similarities.Rebochan 05:44, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed. People just seem to add whatever similarities they think were there as references. Now, obviously The Incredibles is full of references and in-jokes, but many listed here seem unlikely. But where do we draw the line? Maybe the writers intended us to read all these things into it - they just reinforce the feeling of this being a familiar comic-book world... SpaceCaptain 23:32, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I concure - I came to look at the talk section because I saw things such as the comparison of Elastigirl to Mr. Fantastic (in contrast to other stretchable heroes, such as the Elongated Man or Mr. Plastic) and Dash to The Flash (in contrast to other super-speedsters, such as Quicksilver). The only member of the Incredibles who isn't based on a relatively common superhero archetype is Violet, IMHO. There aren't very many defensive only superheroes because it's just not as exciting. Merge

Could someone please merge and redirect Jack-Jack Attack to this article. Thanks--nixie 09:30, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Someone has already done just that. --Joe Sewell 17:01, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Voice cast

I note that somebody has added the voice cast for the Hindi version. Presumably this film has been dubbed into tens of different languages - is it really appropriate to start adding the voice casts of each version here? --Ryano 09:47, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I agree; if such a page to cover the voice actors of dubbed versions of the film were started, it should include all languages and be separate from the main film's entry. --Che Fox 15:01, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Syndome's Height

"Buddy Pine, "Syndrome" (6 ft 1 in (1.85 m)" Where does this come from? There's no way Syndrome is 6'1.

If you are into measurement, in the DVD extras they say Mirage's waist is 13 cm.

Boy, the height statistics obviously include his hair. --Kanjilearner

Conclusion

Instead of saying "the explosion of his jet killed him", it says that it "seems to point to the conclusion that he died". What's that supposed to mean? Do you think he survived the blades AND the explosion? There's a 99% chance that the blades killed him, and a 1% chance that he survived the blades and was killed in the explosion! He couldn't have survived! I say rewrite the info to say that he WAS killed in the plane explosion! Scorpionman 02:09, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget, this is an animated comic book. Death is never permanent in comic books. --Joe Sewell 16:45, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it has happened in real life that people have survived these things. It's possible that the blades would have stopped as soon as anything came into contact with them. There's a definite possibility that Syndrome is still alive so the entry is absolutely accurate in wording it that way.

That's impossible! The blades wouldn't have stopped on contact! If you put your finger into a running fan, you'd probably get your finger chopped off! The jet intake blades were going at least three times as fast! Besides, if he did happen to survive the blades, he would die in the explosion! What "things" are you talking about that people have survived? Getting sucked into a jet intake and and a jet explosion? I think you need to do more research! That's impossible! Rise of the Underminer

Is the Rise of the Underminer going to be a sequel to the movie or is it just going to be a video game? Scorpionman 01:17, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Read the text more carefully. It's a secod video game. (I will admit, this could be clearer.) SpaceCaptain 14:25, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have clarified the nature of Rise of the Underminer in the article text. — Jeff Q (talk) 15:01, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How can they make a sequel to the video game when there's no sequel to the movie yet? When the movie sequel comes out, the plot may be different from that of the video game! Scorpionman 01:52, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That sort of thing is very common. All they have to do is make sure that, at the end of the game, the situation is basically the same as at the end of the movie (except that the Underminer's been defeated.) SpaceCaptain 15:01, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rating

Wasn't Toy Story a PG too? --Jamdav86 08:59, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

No, it was G: imdb page DenisMoskowitz 14:18, 2005 Jun 12 (UTC)

It's PG in my territory (UK), so shouldn't the sentence mention that it is the firs Pixar film to be rated PG in America?--Jamdav86 14:38, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Probably. DenisMoskowitz 02:11, 2005 Jun 13 (UTC)
I thought Monsters Inc was PG.

Ayn Rand and objectivism

The suggestion that Ayn Rand's objectivist philosophy is alluded to in The Incredibles is intriguing, but is there any source for such a claim? Wikipedia frowns on "weasel words" like "some viewers claim" and has a policy of "no original research"; i.e., we need an external source, not editorial speculation. Can anyone help out here? — Jeff Q (talk) 05:41, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[1] is a good starting point. -- Scott e 04:06, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, Scott. I've added it to the appropriate text, which I've moved out of the plot section (where it really doesn't belong) and into "Themes" (which was "Mature themes", but which I've broadened). This quick-n-dirty restructuring could probably use some additional editing. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 09:45, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There is no real connection between Objectivism and The Incredibles according to Brad Bird himself. Here are some cites: [2], [3]I'm going to link to one of these interviews where Bird denounces these claims. NotSuper 15:43, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Finding better Mr Incred pic?

Should a better picture for Mr Incredible (and possible Jack-Jack) be found? Mr Incredible's is of bad quality compared by Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, etc. Squidward2602 13:49, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So much cleanup needed...

Man, this article needs some work. Clearly some overimaginative fans have gotten their mitts on it. -Character section is pretty much okay, although Violet's "Vi" nickname should be deleted, as it's not her superhero name. It's just there for no reason. She doesn't have a superhero nickname. -The "jack of all trades" reference in Jack-Jack should be deleted, as it's been stated many times by Brad Bird, in interviews, the DVD, the artbook, that Jack-Jack was just named after his son. -The references to Rick Dicker looking and sounding like past presidents should be deleted. Just asinine speculation. -Redundant info on the "Elastigirl/Mrs. Incredible" info in the Merchandising section.

-The tributes section: hoo boy. Where to begin. I'd say more than half of it should go. Obviously Brad Bird was influenced by a lot of things, mostly old superhero comics and Bond films. But we can't start listing every little thing that might be related. It's just asinine fancruft speculation. I'll try to cut it down as much as I can.

-The Themes section seems alright, although the authors might be reading too much into the film. It might need to be softened a little. As far as violence/death goes, it's still pretty sanitized. -I fail to see the point of the huge paragraph pointing out the Objectivism in the film when it's preceded by a quote from Bird completely denying it. If someone wants to shorten it to some "controversy over philosophical stance" thing, that might work.

-As I said a bit up the page, the "Appeal of Elastigirl" thing has to go. Now. It's just worthless fancruft. This is an encyclopedia, not a shrine website.

-A few bits in the trivia could be cut, like the comparison between Hyperion and Gamma Jack (needs proof) and the odd comment about "Incredibles 2".

So, I can do most of this myself, but any help or suggestions would be nice. --Marcg106 01:50, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Along with the 'Elastigirl's Appeal'...I think the 'Comic Book Tributes' and 'Themes' should be deleted. If a lot of readers are going to be snippy about what is put in the article, I recommend just putting the basic information about the film, and anything else that can be backed up by solid facts.--Joel 12:12, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I just edited a bunch of things that have been bothering me for a while (with a large overlap with the list above), but if you are looking for suggestions, I say "Be Bold!" We'll clean up behind you if needed. :) Turnstep 14:00, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, maybe every little influence didn't need to be listed, but did you have to delete everything? Maybe just take out the minor references and keep some of the major ones. Scorpionman 02:15, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Buddy Pine = Bucky Barnes

The article should probably mention the similarities between Buddy Pine (Syndrome) and Bucky Barnes (Captain America's old sidekick). They appeared similar (in their younger days), they both were fans of the superheroes and attempted to become their respective hero's partner, and they both "died" in a plane explosion in mid-air. Also, their names sound alike (as seen above). With the mention of comic book deaths above, the similarities just came to me, although I'm not sure how to include this info. Thanks for any help.--Tim Thomason 03:13, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's a tough call. At some point, you have to accept the fact that all sorts of similarities pop up. I think that such things should not be in the article unless it is confirmed that BB (or someone else involved in the film) definitely had such a similarity in mind when making the film. Turnstep

Re: Sequels

The best I can find for information on a sequel is pure speculation dating from the first half of last year, at the latest.
