Murrieta Valley High School (MVHS) Opened in 1990 as the city's first four-year comprehensive high school, located in Murrieta, California. The school is nestled at the base of the Santa Rosa Plateau, at the western end of the city. It is operated by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. MVHS is a California Distinguished School ,[2] and fully accredited as a four-year comprehensive high school by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Campus

The MVHS campus is housed on 52 acres (210,000 m2) and has 152 classrooms, computer labs, technology labs, photo labs, a video production studio, automotive shop, classrooms for ceramics, food and clothing classes, science labs, and a state-of-the-art performing arts center. Athletic facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, football stadium, soccer fields, a running track, softball fields and basketball courts. In addition, the school has a library, cafeteria, administrative offices, and a staff lounge. This includes,

Mission

The mission at Murrieta Valley High School is to always do things the "R.I.T.E. way the Nighthawk way" – RITE is an acronym which stands for Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence. Students are always encouraged to serve others and to strive to become better students through Hardwork, Analytical thinking, being Worthy citizens and Knowledgeable communicators, or "H.A.W.K."

Choir

Murrieta Valley High School's Choir Department is currently under the direction of choir teacher, Jaclyn Johnson. Jaclyn has been a high school Choral Director for the past six years. Ann Gref is the prestigious accompanist of the MVHS Choir. There are five choir classes, this include Chamber choir, (highest choir class), advanced chorale, advanced women's ensemble, beginning women's ensemble, and men's ensemble. Chamber singers will be performing at the Western Division Conference of the ACDA (Also known as American Choral Directors Association), in Tucson, Arizona. Murrieta Valley's Choirs have consistently won top awards at Regional, State and National competitions. Murrieta Valleys Choirs' official website is MVHS Choir. Crimson Cadets

MVHS' marching band, the Crimson Cadets, were formerly under the direction of Richard Lorenzen, who died on October 25, 2009 of a heart attack. They are members of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), and compete in SCSBOA field shows. The Crimson Cadets are the current SCSBOA 5A field champions, having won the 2008 championship competition on December 6[3].

Theatrix

Murrieta Valley High School's Drama Department (Theatrix) is currently under the direction of drama teacher Shilind Wheaton. The department stages an average of seven shows per year, including both mainstage and blackbox performances. Theatrix members compete in the annual Fullerton College High School Theatre Festival, where in past years have made the finals or won in events such as Technical Olympics, Theatre Games (Improv), technical design, dramatic and comedic monologues, and many other events.[4]

Nighthawk Robotics Club

The Nighthawk Robotics is a club whose mission is to construct robots using computer programming and they compete against other clubs from around the region and world. The club, which started three years ago by teacher advisor Kevin Bradley and a small group of students, has grown rapidly, thanks in part to the club's early success. Last year, one of the school's teams placed third at the national competition in Omaha. The robots, built using Vex Robotics materials, can cost up to $2,000 apiece. The club doesn't get any financial support from the school, so Bradley applies for grants and members hold fundraisers to pay for parts and trips. This year, the club also received a $10,000 grant from the Roripaugh Family Foundation. The Southwest Community Development Organization helped the school apply for the grant, which will be used to purchase supplies and pay for club activities, including the trip to Dallas.

ASB

ASB stands for the Associate Student Body. Through this class MVHS runs most of its student activities and business. ASB is headed by Geniel Moon, the Activities Director, and is run by elected and appointed student positions.

IB Program

Murrieta Valley High School has officially been authorized as an IB World School.

Football

MVHS offers Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Football. The Varsity team was headed by Coach Lance Neal, who took over in the 2006 season after former coach Wally Clark retired. Notable performances include three semi-final (2001, 2002, and 2008), and six quarter final playoff appearances. Also, professional football player Jorge Cordova hails from MVHS. Neal was terminated as head coach at the end of the 2008 school year and was replaced by Coach Ireland.

Water Polo

MVHS offers Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Water Polo for both boys and girls. The Varsity Head Coach is Bryan Lynton who also coaches at Elite Water polo which is held at the MVHS pool.
