Brazil World Rally Team is a British-based Brazilian racing team set to compete in the World Rally Championship. They will make their début in the 2011 season at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, round three of the 2011 calendar. They will use a Super 2000-spec Mini Countryman before switching to the Mini Countryman WRC for the next round, the Rally d'Italia Sardegna. The teams plans for the future is to register as a World Rally Team in 2013 as well as adding a second car to the team.
The team currently have Brazilian driver Daniel Oliveira signed up for the 2011 season, along with Portugese co-driver Carlos Magalhaes. The main goal for the team is to increase the popularity of rallying in Brazil. The reason for this is that Brazil has not had much success over the 38 years of the existence of the WRC. The country held two WRC events before in 1981 and 1982, won by Ari Vatanen and Michèle Mouton respectively. There have also been very few Brazilian rally drivers that have had any success.
The Brazil World Rally Team will receive technical and operational support from Prodrive in the United Kingdom, who develope the MINI WRC and S200 cars, with respected team manager Paul Howarth and engineer Nick Navas heavily involved in the project. Brazil World Rally Team’s president, Frank Allison Maciel, and manager, Paul Handal, will also perform key roles.
In addition to his 11-event WRC campaign, Oliveira will undertake several tests in the MINI and also tackle the Codasur championship in South America in a Subaru Impreza in order to build his competition experience.
