The Ocean Fracture

The Ocean Fracture are a post-hardcore band based in Glasgow, comprising Steven Gillies (Vocals, guitar), Paul McArthur (Guitar, vocals, other), Wes McCallum (bass) and Sean Campbell (drums).

History

The band formed in January 2004,[1] and have since released one double A-sided single and one mini-album, The Sunmachine And The Ocean, which was released in September 2006 by Eyes Of Sound records. Both were produced at City Of Dis studios in Gillingham, Kent by Ben Phillips, former frontman of cult hardcore band The Guilliame Seam.

Since its inception, the band has played or toured with many other well-known UK acts, including Secondsmile, Devil Sold His Soul[2], Eden Maine and Sika Redem, amongst many others.

The band completed work on three new tracks in February 2009, produced by Oliver Craggs (ex-Cubic Space Division) at his Hidden Track Studios in Folkestone, Kent. The tracks were planned to be released on a split EP with Kent noisecore band Rise Of Raphia, however Rise of Raphia disbanded before these plans could come to fruition. The tracks will be released in 2010 as a digital single.

Guitarist Paul McArthur also played drums for cult indie band Mouse Eat Mouse, one of The List magazine's 50 Best Scottish Bands Of All Time. [3]

After a show in early 2009 with Young Widows at the Captain's Rest in Glasgow, bassist Russell Niven chose to leave the band to pursue a career in London.

Following nearly a year of playing as a three-piece with sampled basslines, in January 2010 The Ocean Fracture announced that Wes McCallum, of Glasgow math-rock outfit No Kilter, would be joining the band on bass duties. The new line-up played their first show on 15th January with Irish rockers LaFaro.[4]

In June 2010 The Ocean Fracture released a split EP with Sheffield post-metal act Bleaklow, featuring two previously unreleased tracks.
