In the Robotech animated series, the Invid (named "Inbit" in Genesis Climber Mospeada) are a fictional alien race.[1][2][3]

Fictional background

A hive mind consisting of invertebrate, bipedal, crab-like creatures, the Invid came from the world of Optera, the inhabitable planet of the Tzuptum System. Their world was defoliated by the Robotech Masters in an attempt to monopolise the Flower of Life, a powerful narcotic that was native to the planet and also the source of an incredibly powerful energy source called protoculture. Enraged by the devastation and betrayal by those who came as apparent friends, the sedate and agrarian Invid militarize and begin a program of genetic manipulation, evolving to a point where they can strike back. The unleashed rage of the Invid proves superior to the Masters' own power, and the Robotech empire is slowly conquered. Ultimately, the Invid trace the stolen Flowers to Earth (which turns out to be the only other place in the galaxy where the Flower can grow) and invade Earth without a moment's hesitation, thus beginning the Third Robotech War.

The Invid are led by twin monarchs. Long ago, the Regis genetically modified herself to interact more easily with the scientist Zor, who came to Optera to study the Flowers of Life. In this form, she was seduced by Zor, who took from her knowledge of the Flowers' secret before abandoning her and the Invid.[4] The Regis is devoted to the Flower of Life and its ability to transform. While willing to engage in near-merciless conflict in the short term, she views evolution as a path to move beyond slaughter in the longer term and aspires to reach a stage of evolution where the Invid might recapture the idealic life that was once theirs.

The male counterpart to the Regis is known as the Regent. Less interested in evolution that his estranged wife, the Regent is also physically undeveloped beyond the natural bipedal stage of existence that was the Invid's original form. His path is not transformation but annihilation: while Zor was likely unaware of the Masters' intent to defoliate Optera, he links the personal betrayal of the Regis' seduction to the defoliation and has since that time devoted himself to the destruction of the Masters' race.

With the release of the movie Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, the spelling of the name of the female leader of the Invid was changed to "Regess". Not only was the new spelling used in the movie credits, but references to the character on the official Robotech website were changed to match the new spelling. The reasons for this change are unknown.[5]

The definision to the Genesis Climber Mospeada

It leaves originally as a protoplasmic living creature, and it initial crustacean has evolved to the Mock-Humanoids form and the distinction do not take side while doing the adjustment repeatedly from the appearance to think to the environment of the conger and the occupation planet through "the ultimate evolution form "(In themselves definitions) on the way the slug after the earth is invaded of the existence that is called A queen so that it is shown in the true sociality insect etc. decides all the wills, and it doesn't have the one "Piece" and, in a word, queen will becomes the will of the entire the group in a word.

It was assumed that the Homeworld planet was only one of the colonies (camp ground) by which it stopped to look for the attainment point of better evolution from which it was not clarified, and an unknown planet and the earth that had appeared in the first story were led to "The aware of Cosmos or Cosmos will" (Refer to the paragraph of the legend transmitted to the "Inbit") that the queen said, too in the work.

Boiling evaporation acquired by the Oxygen toxicity of the osmotic pressure by the green body fluid when it was not possible to live by the atmospheric composition of the earth-type planets, and it touched oxygen especially and always acquired a kind of Environmental suit and Powered exoskeleton, named to "The battle wormer " and the human race side by the code name outside "the Hive" that was their living spaces until the individual that provided with the body similar to the human race appeared because it did, and it was not able to live without "Battle wormer".

While being tempered with the side as SF version "Invasion of Normandy" or " Road movie" though it was scheduled to draw only as "Unknown existence not to be able to understand" based on an original setting of the work that the first contact SF work and the earth have already been occupied as an original work concept, the production of the compulsory delivery of the residence teacher thing by the Human subject research or human experimentation etc. as indicated in the episode of "Rainy Boy(Dusty Ayles)" that appears in human type "Inbit"(Sougi-type Invid) "Battler"(Corg in Robotech) that shows the belligerence and the 20th war histories(Nazism is hinted) comes to stand out.

It is divided and comes doing to confuse the appearing colony in this work that does queen "Refles(Regis)" that occupies the earth as length by the intention and feelings of "Piece" though it had same earthling "Body" to adjust to the environment.

The Queen deleted with the supernatural power to "the Weapons of mass destruction",she despaired to human race's act and stupidity , and it went out to the Odyssey road again when pulling it "The Third Reinforcement Force"( "第三次地球奪還軍" as " The Third Earth recapture Force" in literally; Japanese Language) with the conception of expelling "Inbit" even if this situation and the earth were destroyed.

The Legend or myth of Invid

If the Shadow ("Shadau" as their term) spread over our world, and that turns into the dark and doomed.

If the Light ("Raytou" as their term) spread over our world, and we expanded "The wings of light".

The scattering our children into this Universe, you must voyage to " The Promised Land " which the Light [Reitou] invites.

Thus, doing so becomes your own evolution !

Invid Factions

By the time of human involvement with Robotechnology, the Regent and Regis have largely ceased to interact and divided the race between them. The Regis leads the invasion of Earth while the Regent presses his assault against the remnants of the Masters' empire on their own homeworld of Tirol, left virtually defenseless in the wake of the First Robotech War (which saw the near-obliteration of the Zentraedi) and the departure of the Robotech Masters (to Earth, in search of the Protoculture Matrix).[6][4] Ironically, this arrangement leaves humanity to confront both of the monarchs, the Regent battling the Robotech Expeditionary Force (REF) when it arrives in Tirol and the Regis arriving to take Earth from Southern Cross forces already depleted by a prolonged war with the Masters.

Army of the Regis

Following its pyrrhic victory against the Robotech Masters at the end of the Second Robotech War, the Army of the Southern Cross (ASC) is left badly weakened. Beyond shortages of mecha, starships, and protoculture, nearly all of the senior Southern Cross officers are dead and Monument City is in ruins. Given the situation, it is little surprise that what little command structure remains is unable to mount a convincing defense even when warned in advance of the coming Invid threat. Arriving with numbers in the millions, the Regis' Invid forces rapidly destroy all organized resistance and subdue the entire population of Earth; cities are atomized and much of the remaining population is enslaved.

During her time on Earth, the Regis concludes that the humanoid form is best adapted to life on Earth, and begins preparations for the mass racial transmutation of her race into that form. She uses the enslaved population to harvest Flowers of Life so that these can be processed into protoculture to power her race's evolution, along the way brushing aside several small fleets sent by the REF. However, shortly before her preparations are complete, the bulk of the REF fleet arrives and launches the final assault to liberate Earth. The Invid are demonstrably superior even to the full force of the REF, but when the commander of the invasion force decides that it would be better to render the Earth dead than leave it to the Invid, the Regis recognizes the Neutron-S Missiles as the handiwork of an old enemy The Children of the Shadow and decides to leave. She transmutes her entire race into energy, destroying the Neutron-S missiles in the process, and the form of her departure is an energy phoenix which looms over Earth before it leaps into space.

Army of the Regent

The exploits of the Regent are contained within the Sentinels portion of the Robotech timeline, a period whose coverage in animation is limited to five remnant episodes and whose primary source material is from comics and the novels. These materials are not considered canonical by Harmony Gold; accordingly, this information may be changed should future Robotech material address it. What is almost certainly true is that in the wake of the First Robotech War and the disappearance of the Zentraedi who have long served as guardians of the Robotech Masters' empire, the Regent gains the upper hand and drives towards the conclusion of an interstellar war against the Robotech Masters. The Regent's rule is cruel and harsh, fueled by his fury over the adultery of the Regis with Zor and his anger at the Masters' defoliation of Optera. Tirol, the Masters' homeworld, falls shortly before the arrival of the SDF-3.

The REF itself opts not to pursue a war against the Regent. However, a diverse collection of warriors is able to convince a faction of the REF, led by Admiral Rick Hunter, to make a stand, and they set out to liberate the worlds of the Local Group (Karbarra, Spheris, Praxis, Haydon IV, Garuda, and Peryton). The Regent has in the course of his war of attrition lost many millions of troops; thus, the Sentinels' campaign is significantly more successful than one might reasonably expect given the relatively small numbers available to them.

At this point, the events of the Sentinels' saga become unclear, as the retcon comic storyline unveiled in the Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic book mini-series diverge from the path taken by earlier comics and by the McKinney novels. In some fashion, however, the Regent allies with the renegade human officer General Edwards, who badly damages the SDF-3 and seriously wounds Admiral Lisa Hayes while fleeing Tirol. The REF and its allies then pursue Edwards to Optera, where the remnants of the Zentraedi are the first to attack. Edwards takes the opportunity to kill both the Regent and Zentraedi Commander Breetai while they are engaged in battle and subsequently takes over the Regent's forces. However, his dominance is short-lived, and Edwards is defeated and killed. The Invid on Optera are left to their own devices as they devolve back into peaceful slug-like creatures, free from the Regent's anger and war planning. It doesn't state if the Regis reclaims these invid into her forces, which later invade Earth.

Invid Mechanized Units

  • Scout (aka. Iigaa/Eager; piloted by Stage 1 Invid): The Scout is a small rust colored unit whose primary armament is its blade like pincer forearms. The pilot is an Invid who is only slightly evolved beyond the natural Invid state, has little free will or intelligence of its own and is incapable of surviving outside of its armor. The Scout is an extremely fast and maneuverable unit.[7]
  • Armoured Scout (aka. Fighter Scout, Attack Scout, or Iigaa/Eager; piloted by Stage 1 Invid): A Scout armed with annihilation disc launchers(pulse beam cannons).
  • Mortar Scout: (Stage 2?): A Scout armed with a triple barrel mortar. More powerful than the Armored Scout. Appears only in Robotech: Invasion.
  • Trooper (aka. Gurab/Grab; piloted by Stage 2 Invid): The Trooper is heavy and ponderous compared with the scout. It is more survivable and its Stage 2 Invid pilot has a small degree of free will and intelligence. It is purple and lavender in color and is about twice the size of a Scout.[8]
  • Shock Trooper (aka. Gurab/Grab; piloted by Stage 3 Invid): A Trooper armed with annihilation disc launchers(twin plasma cannons).[9]
  • Invid Command Unit (aka. Gamo, or Pincer Command Unit; piloted by Stage 4 Invid). This unit is larger than a Shock Trooper and is blue and white. Its pilot possesses considerable free will and intelligence and is capable of assimilating data and decision making and acting as a field commander. Its primary armament consists of dual heat cannons and two mini plasma weapons below and a little behind the eye. This is a later development of the Regis during the Third Robotech War.
  • Enforcer (aka. Malar, or Hive Guard; piloted by Stage 4 Invid): Enforcers are Stage 4 Invid encased in power armour. Stage 4 Invid possess free will and intellect commensurate with the average human. They often act as field commanders and hive officers. These units are white and grey that are about humaoid size, and Enforcers are equipped with an attached energy rifle, concealed forearm lasers, and an energy shield.[10]
  • Red Enforcer (stage 4): These Enforcers are twice the size of Enforcers and make up the Regent's personal guard. The Red Enforcers have even greater greater armor and durability. Occasionally, uses the Invid Assault Speeder, a bizarre weapon built for ramming attacks.
  • Heavy Enforcer (Stage 4): These units are identical to enforcers, except they have twin shoulder cannons and extra armor. Appears on in Robotech: Invasion.
  • Grappler (Stage 4?): Grapplers were an experiment by the Regis. These mecha can only be killed by eye shots, any other shot will just bounce off and do no damage, but in return, the eye is only used to track a target until another form of tracking is used. The only way to coax the eye out is to use active camouflage or snipe them without them knowing.(easier with active camo.) They have a dark brass color to them. they lack real weapons but a lunge attack. They have a longer sleeker look to them. This unit only appears in the Robotech: Invasion videogame.
  • Annihilator (aka. Krugatch Annihilator; piloted by Stage 4 Invid): This mecha is a collaborative between the Invid and E.B.S.I.S. splinter group, Krugatch. It has four arms and a built in jet pack. It is armed with forearm lasers (similar to the Enforcer's), a "Strak Beam", forearm gatling guns, and short range missiles. This unit can also be equipped with the Enforcer's energy rifle and energy shield. Appears in the Robotech sourcebook Lancer's Rockers.
  • Royal Command Battloid (aka. Gosu, Invid Battloid or R.C.B.; piloted by Stage 5 Invid). This unit's pilot is a Stage 5 Invid -- essentially a human except that it is an evolved Invid (the only sign is their green blood). Stage 5 Invid represent the Regis' final evolution stage for her entire part of the Invid race. The Royal Command Battloid is armed with missiles and annihilation discs and is considered to be comparable to an Alpha Fighter in combat capability. The colors of an RCB are chosen by its pilot and are highly individual. Stage 5 Invid are expected by the Regis to act as field commanders and hive leaders. This unit is a later development of the Regis during the Third Robotech War; pilots include Sera and Corg.
  • Sonic Cannon (aka. I-K Mobile Sonic Cannon, Sonic Titan). This unique prototype unit is piloted by the Great Invid Slug, a giant 150 foot brontosaurus-like slug created in a Genesis Pit by the central California Invid Brain and the Krugatch. This unit is an immense suit of power armor standing 200 feet tall (thus making it by far the largest mecha in Robotech). It is equipped with a sonic cannon, two high powered laser cannons, and 28 light laser cannons. It was destroyed by Lancer, Lunk, Annie, Sera, and the Earth resistance forces. Appears in the Robotech sourcebook Lancer's Rockers.

Invid Inorganics

The army of the Regent utilizes robotic fighting machines in addition to the standard Invid units. The Hellcat (or Cougar), Scrimm, Crann, and Odeon are combat robots controlled by a central Invid Brain. The machines are incapable of independent thought or motivation and will shut down in the event of the destruction of the Invid Brain.

Vehicles and Starships

The New Generation episodes of Robotech show an Invid troop carrier shaped very much like a clam, a vessel used to transport mechanized units from a planet's surface into space.[11] These carriers, which are apparently unarmed, represent the only starships included in the Regis' forces.

The limited Sentinels footage available, the Palladium Books role-playing game source material and The Sentinels comics indicate that in addition to making use of these same carriers, the Regent has a fleet of at least 200 scorpion-like Invid Troop Carriers. At least one larger vessel, which appears to serve as his flagship. The Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic book mini-series validates that this vessel is canonical even in the ret-con, and that it is not only armed but armed with weaponry sufficient to nearly destroy the SDF-3. In the aggregate, however, the focus on mecha deployment and overwhelming numbers suggests that the Invid prefer swarm tactics over use of capital ships.
