Microsoft Sam

Microsoft Sam is the default text-to-speech voice in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is used by the screen reader program built into the operating system.
On YouTube
Microsoft Sam frequently appears in YouTube videos about himself, where he discusses certain topics such as world events, celebrities, music, anime, other videos, etc. He is known for his arrogant personality and cruel sense of humour towards the subject he is discussing, and is antagonistic towards his audience or the user who uploaded the video.
He is frequently used as the main voice actor of many popular films on YouTube as well as other video distribution websites. Made popular by Jon Graham, director of the popular web series, Arby 'n' the Chief (a Halo 3 machinima); Microsoft Sam 'provides' the voice of the Master Chief (the titular 'Chief'). He has also provided voices for many well-known characters and celebrities such as Chris Crocker, Dialga/Palkia, Morshu the shopkeeper, Mario, Rick Astley, and Barack Obama, among many others. His voice is also occasionally used as a substitute for other people's voices, to hide them for certain reasons.
Personality
On YouTube videos, Sam is usually protrayed as being hostile, rude, selfish, arrogant, impatient, and critical. Despite being a computer, which are regularly intelligent, Microsoft Sam is usually niave and dumb. He only sees the bad in the world around him, and rarely acknowledges upsides of the topics he discusses and reviews. He speaks in a deep, slow, croaky voice.
He is easily attracted to soy, and will say its name (mispronounced "swoh") repeatedly; he believes soy is an essential and healthy substance for computers like himself. It is his largest weakness. He often craves it; because of this, he despises having to mention soy or any food substances made from it, and feels angered if the topic is accidentally brought up during his discussion or review, as it forces him to continuously say "soy-soy-soy-soy" repeatedly for a long period of time. He also has an unhealthy obsession with "ROFLcopters" and can't help but imitate them by continuously using the same mispronounced "soy" term to do so (as "swoh" sounds somewhat similar to the sound that revolving helicopter blades make); again, like his crave for soy, if anything to do with ROFLcopters is brought up during his discussion/review, he will be very irritated as he will have no choice but force himself to say "soy-soy-soy-soy". He also apparently owns a ROFLcopter, and uses it for transportation. He is greatly annoyed by expensive ROFLcopter parking and maintenance prices.
If he is discussing something he doesn't like or disagrees with, he will swear frequently to insult it, laugh rapidly at it, and eventually spout completely random gibberish (plus the occasional "soy-soy-soy-soy" for no reason). He is also clumsy and curious, and frequently makes his own system crash when tampering with hacking equipment and codes to bypass security settings. He often blames Bill Gates for his own mistakes.
He very much enjoys complaining or finding fault, as it lets him truthfully express rage or disgust at certain things about life, or at the audience. If he is angered to a certain point, it will drive him insane; he will be incapable of controlling himself. He is unable to put up with even the smallest of predicaments without making insults. However, despite being very arrogant, bossy and cruel, he is easily scared and upset by things such as loud noises, errors in his system, clowns/comedians, and frightening images, as well as several other things. His voice becomes very high-pitched and whiny when he feels afraid. He will cower and cry, and will not calm down. He does not like it when people laugh at his ridiculousness, and always tries (but fails) to threaten anyone who badmouths or insults him. If he feels too intimidated, he will lose all control, spout random gibberish and sentences extremely fast, then occasionally commit suicide in fear.
Other information
There are other voices available in other packages such as Microsoft Office or Microsoft Reader add-ons, notably Lernout & Hauspie, Michael and Michelle. One may choose which voice they wish to use with the Control Panel's Speech dialogue box. In Windows Vista, Sam was replaced by Microsoft Anna. Microsoft Sam is also avaliable for download the the text to speech program, Speakonia.
