Hi, everybody!

About Me

I am an undergraduate living in western Pennsylvania. I currently attend Allegheny College and have attended Penn State in the past. As such, I believe Joe Paterno to be just below Christ himself in prestige. (I think that might be requisite for attending PSU where, let's face it, football is the main religion). For the first half of my time at college, I was a student of the College of Engineering at PSU, with a focus in Aerospace Engineering. I am now an undeclared major and intend to declare psychology with a minor in philosophy. I am interested in physics, psychology, philosophy (especially metaphysics), politics, and pretty much anything else that starts with the letter P.

I play tennis, ice hockey (poorly), racquetball, and have played in a few bands (mostly on the drums). In addition to my usual editing interests of politics, science and philosophy, I read and edit pop culture and entertainment articles from time to time. I love music and movies, and it is my firm belief that if there is a heaven, it would be something like a Jimmy Eat World concert. I read a lot, mostly non-fiction political stuff (boring, I know). As far as authors go, Noam Chomsky is a personal favorite, especially his book Manufacturing Consent, which is an analysis of how propaganda exists in the United States even though the media is not directly controlled by government. I'm a licensed diver, with some rescue and scientific diving training, and did an internship in the field, under a marine biologist for the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution, collecting biological specimens in the Caribbean Sea to help re-assess how diverse that part of the ocean is.

My political stances are generally liberal (in the American sense of the word), with some exceptions; but I have no problem with conservatives and I choose not to be involved with any political party. I see differences in stances as different opinions from different people with different minds and thought processes, and most of them are equally valid, even though I may disagree with them. Differing views are all means to the same end. The only things that bug me in politics are apathy, ignorance, intolerance and, by extension, Sarah Palin. I do my best to keep bias from getting into my edits of actual articles, though.

Okay, now I'm off my soapbox. That about sums it up. Any questions or comments, don't hesitate to post on my talk page. Thanks!

  • A Sub-section on the Wikipedia page on Criticism of Wikipedia, linking to the main article to be started here
  • Considering working on an article on Chicago-style politics (amazing that there isn't one already!) with P@ddington
