Blaine High School is a high school located in Blaine, Washington. Their school mascot is a Borderite, and their colors are orange and black. Present administrators are Principal Ellis and Vice Principal Vezzetti. As of 2009, Blaine High School is 103 years old. Vernon C. McDonald was superintendent from 1937 to 1962, a span of 25 years, and the longest time served by any superintendent.
Blaine High School is known for its dedication to the Advanced Placement program and academics in general. Blaine consistently ranks high in national rankings of high schools.[citation needed]
The Blaine Chamber Choir, directed by Mr. Andy Harmening, traveled to New York on April 28, 2010 to perform at the Festival of Music at Montclair State University. The choir also performed at Federal Hall in Lower Manhattan, St. John's the Divine Cathedral on the Upper Westside, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Park Avenue, and at the Statue of Liberty. Some choir students were in Times Square on Saturday night, May 1, 2010 during the failed car bomb terrorist attack. The BHS Concert band and Wind Ensemble are directed by Mr. Bob Gray. In recent years, they have annually gone to play in Japan (Wind Ensemble only), Portland, and locally. Both bands have achieved success in the SJMEA Band Contests, always winning a Superior or an Excellent.
The Blaine High School Knowledge Bowl team led by Mr. John Freal is also well known, placing last in state in 2007 and twice previously. The math teams also consistently place in the top three at state.
