GTS Finnjet

The GTS Finnjet is a cruiseferry operating on the Baltic Sea. It belongs to the Silja Line. The ship was built in 1977. It was in its time the fastest car ferry in the world, powered by gas turbines.

Originally the ship toured between Travemünde (Germany) and Helsinki (Finland), taking only 22 hours for the trip. It later moved to start from Rostock, and served other coastal towns like Tallinn or St. Petersburg.

This ferry is currently rented to the faculty of medicine of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans to provide housing to students, faculty, and staff displaced by Hurricane Katrina. It is docked on the west bank of the Mississippi River across from Baton Rouge.

There are no plans to have the ship again in the Baltic Sea.
