Warrimoo, New South Wales
Warrimoo (Elevation: 273 metres) is a small village in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, 75 kilometres west of Sydney, Australia.
The name is believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning "Eagle". The village slogan "Blinky Bill Territory" is in honour of Australian author Dorothy Wall, creator of the popular Blinky Bill series of children's books featuring the adventures of a mischievous koala.
The village came to national prominence during the devastating bushfires of 2001, which claimed several houses along Cross St. while miraculously sparing others.
Atleast 2 sighting of Echidnas have been made in Warrimoo over the past 10 years. Most recent being on the 10th of October 2005.
Warrimoo's commercial complexes consist of A Newsagency/Post Office, City, Country, Coastal Real Estate Agency, Mechanics, Italian Restaurant (Victoria's Too), Antique Shope, and Warrimoo Kitchens.
Warrimoo has a few very beautiful escarpments and views, which are quiet untapped by tourism, due to the size of the suburb, and the "tucked away" nature of the bush trails which the lookouts are placed, and the suburb itself.
Warrimoo is accessible by train on the City Rail Network, and the local shops are just a quick few minutes walk across the bridge over the highway from the station.
