Agnes of France (c. 1260 – December 19, 1327) was the youngest daughter of Louis IX of France and Margaret of Provence.

Family

Agnes was the youngest of eleven children. Of the eleven siblings, eight of them lived to adulthood. Agnes's brothers included Philip III of France, who succeeded their father in 1270 and Robert, Count of Clermont. Her sisters included: Blanche, Princess of Castile, Margaret, Duchess of Brabant and Isabelle, Queen of Navarre.

Agnes's paternal grandparents were Louis VIII of France and his wife Blanche of Castile, daughter of Alfonso VIII of Castile and Eleanor of England. Her maternal grandparents were Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Provence and Beatrice of Savoy. Eleanor of Provence was Isabella's aunt, this made her cousin of Edward I of England.

Marriage

Agnes married Robert II, Duke of Burgundy, and became the mother of seven children:

On the death of her husband, Agnes served as regent of Burgundy for her minor son, Hugh from 1306 until 1311. She died at Côte d’Or on 19 or 20 December 1327, and is buried Abbaye de Cîteaux.[1]
