American R&B singer Beyoncé Knowles began her career in the late 1990s as the lead vocalist of one of the best-selling American bands of all time, Destiny's Child, which has sold around fifty million records worldwide.[1] Her discography as a solo artist began in 2003 and consists of three studio albums, two extended plays, four live albums, one remix album and forty singles—including ten as a featured artist and ten soundtrack and promotional singles. All of her studio albums won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album,[2] and debuted at the number one spot on the United States Billboard 200.[3] Knowles has attained five US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles. As of September 2009, Knowles has sold 75 million records worldwide as a solo artist, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[4][5] In the US, she has sold over 11.2 million albums and nearly 25 million singles as of May 2010.[6] In late 2009, Billboard listed Knowles as the most successful female artist and the top radio artist of the 2000s decade,[7] and in February 2010, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the top certified artist of the decade. In the United States alone, she has attained 64 certifications, including albums, digital songs, master ringtones and music videos. Knowles has also received the most ringtone certifications, with nineteen.[8][9]

In June 2003, during the hiatus of Destiny's Child, Knowles released her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album produced the singles "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Me, Myself & I" and "Naughty Girl". With "Crazy in Love" and Dangerously in Love, Knowles became the first female artist—and the fifth artist ever—to top both the singles and albums charts simultaneously in the United States and the United Kingdom.[10] In 2003, "Crazy in Love" peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks while "Baby Boy" maintained its number one position for one additional week on the same chart.[11] Dangerously in Love remains Knowles' best-selling album to date, with sales of more than 4.7 million copies in the United States alone, as of July 2009,[12] and more than 11 million copies worldwide as of the beginning of 2011.[13] After the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005,[14] Knowles continued her solo career with the release of "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug, which was recorded for the soundtrack of The Pink Panther,[15] and the single later topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks.[16] It was later included in her second studio album, B'Day (2006). Many of the themes and musical styles of the album were inspired by Knowles' role in Dreamgirls.[17] B'Day yielded six singles, including top-ten hits "Déjà Vu", "Irreplaceable" and "Beautiful Liar". "Ring the Alarm" became Knowles' biggest debut on the US Billboard Hot 100, entering at number twelve in 2006.[18] "Irreplaceable" remained at the top of the same chart for ten consecutive weeks in 2007, becoming Knowles longest running single at the pole position of that chart.[19] As of January 2009, B'Day has sold over 3.2 million copies sold in the US.[12]

In September 2008, Knowles performed on the charity record, "Just Stand Up!". Her third studio effort, I Am… Sasha Fierce which is classified as a dual disc album, was released in November 2008. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming Knowles' third consecutive number one album in the United States.[20] It included such singles as "If I Were a Boy", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks,[21] "Halo" and "Sweet Dreams". The debut of "Video Phone" on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, made I Am... Sasha Fierce the first album of the 21st century to have seven songs enter that chart.[22] "Single Ladies" is Knowles best-selling single, having sold around 4.2 million digital downloads as of August 2010 in the United States,[23] and over seven million copies worldwide as of March 2011.[24] As of July 2010, songs from I Am... Sasha Fierce have sold a combined total of 12,305,000 digital downloads in the United States,[25] and the album has sold over seven million copies worldwide as of March 2011.[24] It was confirmed that Knowles' fourth studio album would be released in June 2011.[26] According to producer Shea Taylor, the first single will premiere at the end of April 2011.[27] The first single from album is "Run The World (Girls)", and it was released on April 21, 2011.
