Woxbridge is a made-up portmanteau of the Universities of Warwick, Oxford and Cambridge. The term is occasionally used to refer to the three universities collectively, often with implications of perceived superior social status.[citation needed] Woxbridge can be used as a noun referring to any or all three Universities or as an adjective describing the institutions or their students.[citation needed] Students are happy [citation needed] to acknowledge the friendship and similarities in any academic ambitions that might exist between the universities[citation needed], as demonstrated by the original WOxBridge Conference.
Etymology
The origins of the term can be traced back to an annual doctoral conference by the same name.[citation needed] The first official "WOxBridge" event took place in 2007. The conference features a selection of doctoral students from the three Business schools, Saïd Business School from the University of Oxford, Cambridge Judge Business School and Warwick Business School and acts as a platform for doctoral students to present their research.[citation needed] The hosting of the event rotates between the three schools and the 6th annual event is due to be hosted by Saïd Business School in 2012.[1]
