Woxbridge is a made-up portmanteau of the Universities of Warwick, Oxford and Cambridge. The term is occasionally used to refer to the three universities collectively, often with implications of perceived superior social status.[citation needed] Woxbridge can be used as a noun referring to any or all three Universities or as an adjective describing the institutions or their students.[citation needed] Students are happy [citation needed] to acknowledge the friendship and similarities in any academic ambitions that might exist between the universities[citation needed], as demonstrated by the original WOxBridge Conference.

Etymology

The term itself is not actually in circulation, either at Oxbridge or at the University of Warwick. But its loose origins can be traced back to an annual doctoral conference by the same name.[citation needed] The first official "WOxBridge" event took place in 2007. The conference features a selection of doctoral students from the three Business schools, Saïd Business School from the University of Oxford, Cambridge Judge Business School and Warwick Business School and acts as a platform for doctoral students to present their research.[citation needed] The hosting of the event rotates between the three schools and the 6th annual event is due to be hosted by Saïd Business School in 2012.[1]
