Bubble Guppies is an American preschool children's television series produced for Nickelodeon and created by Jonny Belt and Robert Scull.[1] The series revolves around the underwater adventures of a group of mermaid-like preschoolers.[2] The program premiered on January 24, 2011 as part Nickelodeon's block, The Play Date.
Plot
All the episodes generally follow the same format. The episode starts with a sketch of Molly saying "Hi, it's me Molly and it's time for-" only to be stopped by Gil doing the subject of the show (example: He shows Molly different colored bubbles in "The Crayon Prix!"). When Gil or Molly says "It's time for Bubble Guppies!", the theme song starts. After the theme song, The Little Fish say the episode's name.
Something happens when the character goes to school (example: Avi breaks his tail in Call a Clambulance!), so he or she tells Mr. Grouper about it. He states "Let's think about it." and the characters and Mr. Grouper say information about the topic after this. Then the pop song for the episode (example: "I Want a Pet Today" in Bubble Puppy!) starts.
One of the Guppies will go to a shop that mostly focuses on the topic (example: A Doctor's Office in Call a Clambulence!). The owner of the shop (played by another one of the Guppies) will asks questions about what he or she needs. Later, Mr. Grouper comes into the shop and says it's time for lunch. At lunch the characters make a food joke about the subject of the episode (example: Molly gets pizza and a banana, Oona gets a sandwich and a cookie, and Deema gets a sandwich and an ice cream sundae in The Moon Rocks!). After lunch, another Gil and Molly sketch is shown.
The Guppies do something fun which leads Mr. Grouper talking more about the topic, which leads into a dancing song (example: "Construct With Me" in Build Me A Building!). Mr. Grouper then says it's time to go outside and the Guppies make a story about the topic (example: A princess who wants to build a fort from a dragon to protect her graham crackers in Build Me A Building!). After this, Gil and Molly do another sketch.
The Guppies go on a field trip that focuses on the topic (example: a live marching band in Ducks in A Row!), and the show concludes with the last Gil and Molly sketch and a shorter version of the theme song.
List of characters
- Gil (Zachary Gordon)- The silly co-host of the show. He has blue hair and a green spotted tail. He is often the subject of a contuning joke that repeats during the episodes. Next to Molly, he sings a few of the pop songs. He is good friends with Goby and Nonny and his best friend is Molly.
- Molly (Brianna Gentilella)- The smart co-host of the show. She has pink hair with a blue bikini top and a blue wavy tail. She is possibly Hispancic due to her light brown skin color. She sings nearly all the pop songs with her fish microphone, while the other guppies sing backup. She's good friends with Gil, Deema and Nonny, but has feelings for Gil and calls him "Gilly".
- Deema (Angelina Wahler)- The goofy and tomboyish character of the show. She is good friends with Oona and Molly. Deema has large yellow hair with gold earrings, an orange bikini top and an orange spotted tail. She is often a store owner and sings most dance songs. Deema often speaks in a hyper voice and also makes many lunch jokes.
- Nonny (Eamon Pirruccello)- The very smart character who almost never smiles. He has orange hair and a green striped tail. He also wears a scuba mask implied to be glasses. He is good friends with Oona, Molly and Gil. It is revealed in Fishketball before the episode he didn't know how to catch a ball.
- Oona (Reyna Shaskan)- The sensitive character who has a starfish hairclip. She has purple hair in pigtails and has a purple striped dresslike tail with no bikini top. She is possibly Asian due to her yellow skin color and having nearly oval shaped eyes and is good friends with Deema, Molly and Nonny.
- Goby (Jelani Imani)- The imaginative character of the show. He has purple hair with a purple wavy tail. He sometimes sings dance songs like Deema, but a few less. He is possibly African American due to his dark brown skin color and is good friends with Gil and Nonny.
- Mr. Grouper (Tino Insana)- The Guppies' preschool teacher who is orange and yellow and can change colors.
- Bubble Puppy (Ace Brad Parker)- A puppy who is Gil's pet and has brown and white fur. He has a green collar and a yellow license.
- Little Fish (Skai Jackson)- A trio of fish that look alike. They may be others, like the fish who were playing volleybubble in "Fishketball". When one of the Guppies say a question the fish say the answer (example: Deema says which one is the x-ray of Oona's body, and the fish say "That one!" and point to a body x-ray).
- Crabs and Lobsters and Snails- They are characters often seen doing various careers or making cameos.
One Time Character
- Avi and his mother- They only appear in the pilot where Avi breaks his tail. They are both purple and Ms. Avi is overprotective.
