Atago Gongen (愛宕権現) is a Shinto kami worshipped as the local avatar of Shōgun Jizo. The cult originated in ascetic practices on Mount Atago in Kyoto, and Atago is worshipped as a protector against fire.[1] There are some nine hundred Atago Shrines around Japan.[2]
