Please try again. The paragraph needs help. But:

  1. Birds cause the global spread of H5N1. It more that they ARE the global spread. birds are spreading it to birds. That is the global spread. A lot of people are thinking "global spread" refers to humans.
  2. it is by definition "highly pathogenic".. No, there are low pathogenic strains of H5N1. ANY avian flu virus strain that kills a high percentage of chickens is by definition highly pathogenic. The point is that it doesn't have to kill swans or people to be "highly pathogenic". One of the unprecedented things about this strain of H5N1 is that it is ALSO highly pathogenic to so many species other than chickens and turkeys. Please, edit the paragraph again!
