The seventh season of Desperate Housewives, a television series created by Marc Cherry, began airing on September 26, 2010.[2]
Season seven was originally intended to be the final season, according to creator Marc Cherry. He has a new plan to extend the series two more seasons, meaning an eighth and ninth season. Marc Cherry has signed a new two-year deal with ABC that will keep Desperate Housewives on the air until the year 2013, subject to negotiations with Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria, the show's main actresses, who are all contracted for seven years. The first episode of the season aired in Latin America on October 6, 2010. Season 7 premiered in Ireland on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Season 7 began airing in the United Kingdom on October 17, 2010. It started airing at 9:00 PM on October 25, 2010 on OSN's Show Series in the Middle East. It began airing in Israel on December 12, 2010.
The stars of Desperate Housewives finalized new deals to make way for Season 8,[3][4] and have recently signed at the price of $12 million.[5]
Production
Desperate Housewives has been picked up for a seventh season.[6] The first episode of the seventh season aired on September 26, 2010.
Cast
The regular cast underwent several changes from the 6th to the 7th season. The returning castmembers included series narrator Brenda Strong as Mary Alice Young, and leading housewives Teri Hatcher as Susan Delfino, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp and Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis, as well as husbands James Denton as Mike Delfino, Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Carlos Solis and Doug Savant as Tom Scavo, and also Charlie Carver as Porter Scavo, Joshua Logan Moore as Parker Scavo, Madison De La Garza as Juanita Solis and Mason Vale Cotton as M.J. Delfino. Kathryn Joosten (Karen McCluskey) also returned as a series regular, being promoted to a "starring" castmember. Kyle MacLachlan (Orson Hodge) asked to be let go from the main cast after season 6 to pursue other projects. The Bolen family's story ended in the 6th season finale, so series regulars Drea de Matteo (Angie Bolen), Jeffrey Nordling (Nick Bolen) and Beau Mirchoff (Danny Bolen) all left the main cast, as did Andrea Bowen (Julie Mayer). The role of Penny Scavo was recast, with Kendall Applegate being replaced by Darcy Rose Byrnes.
Former recurring guest stars Kevin Rahm (Lee McDermott) and Tuc Watkins (Bob Hunter) were promoted to "starring" castmembers, and former Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams joined the cast as a sort of fifth lead (following the departure of three supporting housewives over the previous two seasons) in the role of Renee Perry.
Mark Moses re-joined the main cast in the role of Paul Young, Mary Alice's husband, several years (and TV seasons) after leaving the contractually bound cast following season 2.
Max Carver retained his recurring status as Preston Scavo, as did other established recurring guest stars, including Daniella Baltodano as Celia Solis and Orson Bean as Roy Bender. Several former series regulars have guest starred throughout the season, including Bowen as Julie, Cody Kasch as Zach Young, Shawn Pyfrom as Andrew Van de Kamp, Joy Lauren as Danielle Katz, Steven Culp as Rex Van de Kamp, and Brent and Shane Kinsman as younger Preston and Porter, respectively. Harriet Sansom Harris returned as Felicia Tilman, after having been written off for a while following season 2.
Brian Austin Green joined the guest cast as Keith Watson, Bree's new contractor boyfriend, Lainie Kazan as Susan's new apartment manager Maxine Rosen and Emily Bergl as Paul's new wife, Beth Young.
Jonathan Cake has joined the cast as Bree's new boyfriend, Chuck Vance.[7][8]
Storylines
Susan Delfino
Susan and Mike are facing financial troubles, which has forced them to leave Wisteria Lane and move-in to a small apartment. Mike asks Lee to rent the house on Wisteria Lane to whoever offers the most money. This ends up being Paul Young, who has just been released from prison and moves into the house, along with his new wife Beth. Susan and Mike are upset that Paul is now living in their house, but he has signed a one year lease, so there isn't anything they can do. In the season premiere, Susan receives an offer from her new landlady Maxine to appear on Maxine's erotic web site doing housework while wearing lingerie. Despite initially refusing the offer, Susan accepts it after Mike considers taking a job on an oil rig in Alaska. Susan does her best to hide this secret from her family and friends. However, her secret is soon discovered by Paul, who is now blackmailing her into letting him buy the house, an offer Mike has previously refused. When Mike learns of Susan's secret, he decides to accept the offer of working a couple of months in Alaska so they can return to their house in Wisteria Lane as soon as possible.
Lynette Scavo
Lynette has just had her newest baby, Paige Scavo. Lynette's old college frenemy, Renee Perry, wife of New York Yankees player Doug Perry, comes to visit her. While Lynette decides to ignore Tom's postpartum depression, Renee listens to him, which Lynette thanks her for, but tells her to back-off. She's also stunned after Tom's doctor prescribes marijuana as a cure for his depression. Lynette realizes that her daughter Penny is helping her a lot with the baby, and decides she needs a nanny. Tom enlists the help of his mother, who has very different views on family values than Lynette, which causes conflict. In addition, Tom's mother seems to be losing her memory. When Tom's mother, Allison, clashes with Lynette, he decides that the best thing to do for her is to send her to a nursing home. She hires Susan, who's having financial woes, to be her newborn baby's nanny.
Bree Van de Kamp
Bree is having a hard time. She tells Gaby the truth about the car accident that killed Carlos's mother eleven years ago. She's also just getting divorced from Orson, and having to adjust to being a single woman in her mid-fifties. She begins to feel attracted to her handyman, Keith Watson, and initially competes for his attention with Renee Perry. Keith and Bree begin dating, and Bree has to deal with other issues pertaining to the their age difference, as Keith is in his thirties.
Gabrielle Solis
The season premiere reveals that Gaby's baby had been switched at birth, meaning that Juanita isn't really her daughter. While she's torn between looking out for her biological daughter and keeping Juanita, she's also keeping from Carlos that it was Andrew Van De Kamp who was driving the car that killed his mother eleven years ago. After asking Bob, her lawyer, to contact the family of her biological daughter, Carlos warns her that if things end badly, he will leave her forever. After meeting their daughter, Grace, Gaby and Carlos are finding that they are falling in love with her. However, Juanita is getting suspicious of all the attention Grace is receiving, and her legal parents are revealed to be illegal immigrants. After Hector, Grace's legal father, was deported, her legal mother, Carmen, must go into hiding.
Renee Perry
Renee is Lynette's college friend and they have a frenemy relationship. After she announces to Lynette that she's moving right across the street, Tom tells her to not to tell Lynette about something that had happened between them whilst he and Lynette had broken up. She's also divorcing her husband, Doug Perry, after he dumped her for his agent's secretary. She competes for the attention of Keith with Bree, but eventually steps aside and the two become friends. Renee also clashes with Gaby, but they, too, become friends. She asks Lynette's help so they can start a business together, and Lynette accepts the offer.

Channel 4 has not yet published when the series will resume after the Christmas break, saying only that "Episodes 11 to 24 will be shown later on in 2011".[35] Given that the show's regular time-slots are occupied by other shows on both Channel 4 and E4 for the first 2 weeks in January, it seems unlikely that the show is resuming straight away, and episodes 11 to 24 will most likely be aired at a later date yet to be announced by Channel 4.[36] It is unclear when Channel 4 will continue airing season 7, but a producer at the channel stated that they hope to continue airing in March 2011.[35] On February 26, 2011, Channel 4 confirmed that Desperate Housewives would be returning on April 13, 2011, airing on Channel 4 on Wednesdays and E4 from Sunday, April 17, 2011.
