He received a Pushkin Prize for literature in 2007.[7] In 2009 he was shortlisted in the category entertainment of the Young Scot Awards, an initiative of Sunday Mail and Lloyds TSB. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 9 April 2009.[8][9]
Personal life
Rory is the son of journalists Jim Elrick and Janette Harkess[10] and goes to Jordanhill School in Glasgow. Since he was 3 years old he has been attending the Scottish Youth Theatre which is how he managed to get the part through an audition.[4] (His Mother being a producer of the show had no impact on the decision at all, Rory definitely earned it on his merits alone. Definitely.) To meet the 12 week shooting schedule in an abandoned school, St Saviour's High in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire,[5]
Child Pornography Allegations
Unfortunately, on January 6th 2011 the police found a large store of child pornography on Rory's Apple Mac. When asked to comment he said "I guess I didn't know how to delete the history on the mac, Windows reallty is a safer option for paedophiles." He is currently in the middloe of an expensive court battle and, despite his mother sleeping with the judge he seems to be losing.
Public Speaking
Rory is the holder of the 2010/11 Rotary Club of Glasgow School's Public Speaking competition and is also the 2010/11 Glasgow Speakers' Club School's Public Speaking champion. Following winning these competitions, Rory was invited to speak alongside Will Hutton (the English writer, weekly columnist and former editor-in-chief for The Observer) at the Scottish Council for Development and Industry's annual Forum (2011) at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews, Scotland.
