531 Recordings is an American independent record label founded by local Kansas City rapper K-town. When the label was established, K-town plan to seek artists that do alternative hip-hop or relate to "The Rubik’s Cube" that would consists of artists like Nas, Lauryn Hill, and The Roots, but said he would sign artists with other styles of rhyme as well. K-town wanted artists to specialize in a form of hip-hop informing people in general about their options in life, negative situations that occur to bring people to misery, and other problems that trouble individuals from prevailing in reality.

Background

The label was established on May 31, 2010 in Kansas City, MO. K-town released an extended play titled Suicide EP on November 23, 2010.[1] It was released online and in the Kansas City and Minnesota area. It was distributed by Stand Up Distribution as well as 81612 Entertainment. The goal for 531 Recordings was to release at least one project in 2010 as the new decade begin. Other projects are planned for release in 2011. K-town will release a studio album titled Revelation in the summer of 2011. He will also release an online documentary titled Silence Is Golden for free download. K-town's brother Tony Kordell is releasing his debut album under 531 titled Everybody Hates Tony in 2011. They both plan to create a theme related to the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris for the album. He is also set to release a mixtape as well titled The Freebie Vol. 1. Stormwriter recording artist and long time collaborator Blew released an extended play titled Savage Muzik on April 2, 2011. The first single "Love of My Life" was released on February 28 on Blew's Youtube account. As of March 2011, 531 Recordings recently did a joint venture with New Skool Entertainment. K-town announced that his sophomore album Revelation is set to release on July 1, 2011.
