Martell (formerly, Oneida)[3] is a census-designated place[4] in Amador County, California, United States. It is located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northwest of Jackson,[3] at an elevation of 1486 feet (453 m). Its population is 282.

Martell is located west of Jackson and east of Ione, by which it is connected by the Amador Central Railroad. Martell is where the major retail outlets for Amador County are located, including Kmart, Wal-Mart, and Lowe's in a shopping center. McDonald's, Burger King, Strings Italian Cafe, Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, Jack In The Box and Subway are restaurant chains in town. The community is in ZIP code 95654 and area code 209. Martell's only fitness club is Anytime Fitness, which is Amador County's only 24-hour gym.

Demographics

The 2010 United States Census reported that Martell had a population of 282. The racial makeup of Martell was 234 White, 14 Native American, 5 Pacific Islander, 14 from other races, and 15 from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 36 persons.[5]

Politics

In the state legislature Martell is located in the 1st California State Senate District, and in the 10th California State Assembly District. Federally, Martell is located in California's 3rd congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +7[6] and is represented by Republican Dan Lungren.
