Port forwarding is the act of forwarding a Port to a Private IP address inside a LAN, via a NAT Enabled Router.

This allows remote computers to connect to a specific computer, depending on the port used to connect.

Examples

  • A user may forward ports 6881 through 6889 to a machine allow Bittorrent.
