Sebastián César Helios Ribas Barbato (born March 11, 1988 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan football (soccer) midfielder. He currently plays for Dijon FCO in Ligue 1, being the current captain of the club.

Career

Beginning

Ribas began his career playing for Juventud de Las Piedras.

Internazionale

After scoring the winning goal against Juventus' Primavera team in the Torneo di Viareggio, Juventus was likely to sign Ribas but was facing the 2006 Serie A scandal. The player signed with Inter Milan instead for €1.5 million. Ribas scored his first domestic goal for Inter Milan against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia.

Dijon

He signed Dijon FCO in the summer of 2008 for €3 million after the player also had a short loan spell with Spezia. Ribas was chosen the best player from Ligue 2 in 2010, scoring 25 goals in that year.

Sebastián scored 15 goals in 26 matches in the current season of Ligue 2, being the current leader of goalscorers, so he attracted the interest of some important clubs of the continent. His contract is also expiring in the summer of 2011, so there are rumours that Portuguese giants Sporting Club de Portugal, Romenians Steaua Bucharest and the Italians from Genoa are trying to sign the player, .[1]

Personal life

Sebastián Ribas is the son of former Peñarol and Venezia head coach Julio César Ribas, and also has an Italian passport.[1]
