The story focuses on Dong Yi, a slave maid working in the Bureau of Music. Her warm personality, sincereness and exceptionally keen mind help her solving difficult court intrigues and allows to rose in ranks, first to a Lady of the Court then to a Concubine, despite being born as Lowborn. While solving cases she meets the King, who enjoy her treating him as a Police Officer (as he introduced himself), who finally falls in love with her. She also meets the Queen Inhyeon, gaining her favor, and another concubine, Jang Hee Bin first an ally then a bitter enemy. In her quest to survive on the court and bring justice to the Lowborn she makes many allies among others: Cha Chun Soo (her not blood related older brother), Seo Yong Gi (Police Chief), Court Ladies Jung and Bong.
