BBTV is a media company that brings together content owners, VOD over IP software and hardware platform providers as well as network operators to help create economically sustainable VOD over IP business models. BBTV specializes in the aggregation, sales, marketing and distribution of content via the VOD over IP channel.
The company began by offering foreign language television entertainment over the Internet, and still does. But it was Rafati’s innovations that have piqued wider interest.
She has developed computer programs — search algorithms — that comb the web for certain kinds of content. Rafati’s algorithms scan the web for unauthorized video clips. When they find one, BroadbandTV staff screen — or “curate” — it for potential objectionable content and remove it, and then attach advertisements. A pirate clip posted on YouTube is rebranded into a revenue-generating league asset.
